I'm new to playing competitively. I've noticed that at my local, I cannot play well against campy, projectile heavy characters. The players I typically lose against play Bowser Jr., ROB, Olimar, and Toon Link. I main fox, so how should I better approach these matchups? Should I pick up another character to deal with these matchups? (if so who.)

Thank you for your time.

It'd be best if you took this to the Fox forums as they could probably help you better than anyone. What I can say is that you play a character who has decent zone breaking tools. Your laser is an incentive to approach as they'll just tack on damage slowly in a battle of attrition while your reflect makes them think twice about tossing out power projectiles such as charged shots etc. In general you shouldn't be having much of an issue with zoners if you can learn how to use these tools.

A nice tip I'd like to share since you brought up having a pocket character. People have a bad habit of picking secondaries to fight unfavorable match ups for their main but it only serves to hurt them. If you're serious about competitive smash you only hurt yourself by not committing to your character through even the toughest matchups. Like a physical activity you aren't conditioned to, it's hard to do at first but the more you do it the better you get. Powering through tougher matchups will make you such a better player overall and make your fundamentals so much more solid than a player who picks characters like they're playing rock paper scissors.

This especially holds true so early into Smash 4's lifetime. The meta is still relatively young.

G'luck!

As well as research each of the characters you have trouble with (each of them has their own forum here):
