less standing around

there was a few times when you couldve shield grabbed but you like...dsmashed the shield instead

more aerials. less smash attacks

no standing lasers..you can get punished for it

learn the AT's...

less rolling, use dashdance, fox's dash dance is broken

What fever said. Learn the power of the dash dance. Also, practice the shffl. I don't think I saw you SH once. The SH is essential to playing a good Fox (unless you are Masashi).

Anyway, upthrow uair more. It destroys roy.

omni's is good

Ckits is **** good.
Ckit's guide is much more in depth, and should certainly be read by any fox main, but I think Omni's is the best for someone new to fox, because it presents the really important things very concisely.

I basically wanted to ask the same question as the OP and don't want to start another unnecessary thread. Heres three videos of me (Bo) vs my friend (Jake). Any comments and advices would be great. I'm constantly getting better but was hoping the community could help me out some more with ideas on what I should work on. Thanks

For the Op, Roll less, move more, attack more, mostly just start moving around, obviously you have tech skill issues and you know it, really work on those, its surprising how important it is, the more technical you are the smarter you can play because you increase your options, say if you can't l cancel there are still ways to space your attacks and such that will allow you to not be shield grabbed, but it limits the times you are able to attack and be aggressive.

Grab more, especially at low percents, Fox has one of the best grabs in the game and it can be abused vs almost any character, but especially against Roy. Learn to recover different ways, riding the ledge, overshooting the ledge, firefox even to the stage so you can go towards it or go above your opponent, fire fox above the ledge at a downward angle for the sweetspot, and learn forward b sweetspot as well as short forward b's.

Thats how you will get better, practice one or two things per match at a time, starting with learning to punish moves, I don't have much experience vs Roy but as an example, if he forward smashes and misses learn how far you can be and still grab him, if you are farther than that you might want to shield instead of grabbing then grab after an expected spot dodge, or nair him if he jumps.

Practice short hopping, thats the most important thing for speeding up fox, then L canceling, then wavelanding and wavedashing together, learn to waveland on platforms, off the edge onto the stage, learn to wavedash out of shields shines and dashes.

@ BO - in the first match vs Marth

Bo after your first nair you should have been able to grab or shine wavedash grab

When Marth forward threw you off the ledge you jumped too high, you need to sweetspot with your double jump vs Marth, he was one jab away from forcing a firefox out of you, after that he could drop off and up b you into the wall, counter your firefox and fair gimp you, or forward smash you.

At 30 seconds you jump off the ledge, I don't know if it was an accident, but if it was on purpose you should learn to waveland onto the ledge, and on yoshi's Fox can ledgedrop jump and waveland onto the side platforms then you can fall and bair him.

Try using more dash attacks on Marth, above 50% he has a really tough/impossible time crouch canceling them into anything dangerous and it can set you up for nairs to get him off the edge.

at 1:12 you get up attack, just don't use that, its pretty worthless, jump and forward b or again wavelanding is a great option here, even getting up and shielding, or getting up then rolling is fine.

VERY NICE on the short forward b, that was a perfect use of it!

Try not to challenge Marth from above too often, mix up your timing so you can fast fall a drill in between his tilts, with time you will learn when he can't be drilled and know when to back off and approach another way.

@ 1:28 - Should aim to sweetspot the forward b, you weren't punished this time thankfully.

@ 1:30 - I would just short hop bair again then react to what he does, a lot of people would roll right then so you could chase for a grab, or you could have shield poked, but you NEVER want to be above Marth when he is under those platforms.

Shortly after I see you pressing jump off the ledge again, stop that ^_^

Good work maintaining control after that. At 2:16 I'm gonna guess one of two things, either you just had it dead set you wanted to go at that angle(which happens to the best of us) OR you weren't looking at your opponent, I would have tried to ride the wall a tiny bit, you could probably have been faired still, but it would have been more difficult for him, and you would have had the platform to your left to try and tech on as you went past it.

Again, good work shining out of the grab!

I'm sure you know but make sure and wavedash out of your shines.

And a missed tech at the end cost you your life, obviously work on teching.

Overall your not bad, but you have room to improve, fortunately for you, you seem to have a fairly good understanding of the basics, and you you seem to play fairly intelligently considering how limited you are technically, all I can really say is to work on your repeated small mistake, and your off the edge game, remember you have invincibility so once you grab the ledge be ready to make that third of a second count, on the flip side of that coin be sure to pause every once and a while too to avoid becoming predictable again. Work on moving around on platforms and surprise attacks. Watch some PC Chris vids on Yoshis to see what I mean. Fox can be punished so hard because of his weight that it makes it all the more important NOT to be hit, fortunately he is small, fast and has good gtfo me moves.

@ Binx

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the comments and advice. Sometimes it really helps to have all the little things pointed out to you like that so you can really focus on making them better. I can tell you that from my mariokart experience. Watching pros play and trying to emulate them isn't as good as having someone tell you, you're doing this wrong here, try this instead.

If you or anyone else would like to comment on the fox ditto that would be very helpful to me. Thankfully, I have some ideas for Marth and Yoshi story now so I'll get to work on them.
