Find people to play with. Other people are vital in your growth and development as a player.

In the meantime, practice l-canceling, wavedashing, wavelanding, jump cancel grabs, dash attack cancel grabs, etc. Anything vital to performing well with hour main. Cpus are good combo fodder.

Try as much as you can to watch videos, watch streams, watch tutorials/tips, and emulate some play and combos that you see from others. I've struggled somewhat as well after moving away from my friends who introduced me to the game without having played for much time at all, but I've still committed to practicing tech and working on combo skills. I see visible improvement every so often that keeps me going until I have another opportunity to play some real players. When you get those opportunities, just keep in touch with those people and exchange messages with them to help bring much-needed outside perspective and experience.

It's unfortunate when you're busy or don't know many people, and I totally feel you. But practicing your technique and other gameplay aspects to the best of your ability when you're alone will help you make the most out of the opportunities you get when you do finally get to meetup with other smashers and play them. My attitude is that I want to practice so I can perform solidly and give my best when I get a chance to play with others so that I can very genuinely learn from those experiences.

Good luck and don't give up! I'm SUPER shy, but I'm still doing my best to make it work and to find others who I can talk with and practice with every so often ... :)

And if you want something to follow along with directly, you could use this guide/tutorial to assist your development as a player.

There's nothing like playing a human opponent, but there's still things you can do for the times when you're alone - namely tech skill practice.
