Okay I'm fairly new to smashboards, i often lurk here alot but I have a question. How should I go about flattening my control stick? I've used a flattened one before when smashing with a friend and I found it improved my overall playing, so I would like to do it to my controller right now. Would the best approach be to flatten it with sandpaper?

As in taking off the grip? Start with sandpaper and then work your way down with your thumb.

Why would you want to have less grip? I recently changed from my completely flat (from play but it had little grip from the start) white Japanese controller to a Smash 4 controller because it has way more grip which makes me feel more in control. I feel like I have more control now and can move it significantly faster.

I dont know really, but my guess would be theres less area to get your whole thumb around, therefore more control

Wii classic controllers have flattee tops on their stick caps. You could try swapping one onto your controller if you have a trip wing screw driver. The grip is better but the stick is longer. You give up speed for better grip. This works best for non technical characters
