How do I deal with people who spam dash attack?

In case I have the incorrect term, I mean when you're running and do a forward attack that causes your character to suddenly dash in that direction. I run into this all the time online and unlike roll-dodge spammers, I just can't get around it. I used to play like this when I was 12 so I get real salty when I lose because of it.

Advice for a bumbling scrub?

If you use your shield to block a dash attack, you can do a shield grab or just punish them. Dash attack are easy to punish for the most part, but that's what i do. Block and punish.

Depends on the opponent. Usually, you can simply shield and grab (as already suggested) or spot dodge (rolling 'down' in a sense; inputting the down direction while shielding to dodge on the spot).

The reason it depends on the opponent is because some characters are harder to punish because of the nature of their dash attacks; a well spaced Ness, for example, can dash attack and hit your shield without getting too close.

One main thing to work on is PUNISHING!! :3 Most dash attacks aren't free - if you can time your shielding well, you can punish your opponent with an attack because they're so close to you, and are recovering from their dash attack's end lag.

Shield, press A when they hit your shield, you'll grab them. This is the common punishment option. Only things you have to watch out for are:

1. Characters with multi hit dash attacks (like Kirby) - you'll usually have to wait until the last hit to grab.
2. Characters like Falcon who have very long dash attacks. He will go through your shield and appear behind you sometimes.
3. Characters with very strong smash attacks. They'll push you out of grab range when they hit your shield. You'll have to shield and likely punish with another attack like a smash or jab.
