How do I deal with Luigi as Kirby? (Customs off)

As the thread title says, I've been struggling with Luigi while playing as Kirby. I've attended 4 monthly tournaments so far, maining Kirby at each one, and so far I have played 5 different Luigi mains in best of 3 sets (some multiple times) and have only taken one game as Kirby in total (I managed to scrape a set from a mediocre Luigi by switching from Kirby after losing game 1 to my barely trained Greninja and spamming F-Air and shurikens, which depressed me a little).

I've labbed this matchup extensively, and I simply cannot find a way through a Luigi who walls me with Jab, F-Air, B-Air and Fireballs. Every time I approach from the ground I have to either perfect shield Fireballs or crouch them, and the best reward I can get from a successful approach this way is a D-Tilt punish on a badly timed fireball (which usually leads to him tripping and sliding halfway across the stage before I can follow up) or a dashgrab, which usually only equals 10-16% depending on how many pummels I can fit in. In exchange, if I mess up a ground approach he gets to punish me with a D-Throw string for 25-50% depending on how well he reads me, or a D-Throw to KO if I'm at anything above about 80%.
If I approach from the air he can beat anything I can do horizontally with his superfast F-Air or his long-range B-Air, and if I try and drop down on top of him I usually get U-Smashed, shieldgrabbed or he'll just roll away, which Kirby is too slow to punish.

I'm definitely not a bad player by any means, as I have gotten to the top 10 in three out of the four 96 man monthlies that I've attended; in the most recent one I didn't even make it out of pools due to a sound thrashing by yet another Luigi.

Are there any experienced Kirbys that can help me with this, or is it hopeless?

Thanks,

Kirbech

Well I would say Luigi is one of kirby's worst matchups. You mostly have to out play the Luigi. You always want to avoid getting grabbed since his combos can do a lot of damage. Id say you want to bait and punish the Luigi a lot. If he keeps up smashing you when u try to go on top of him bait out the attack and punish him with like a grab or a down air which can lead to doing a lot of damage. Luigi can combo you but you can also combo him. Kirby also has a good advantage offstage and in the air with all his jumps so use them to your advantage. Kirby isn't necessarily to slow to punish but you need to stay close to Luigi and learn his habits so you can make some reads. If you really have that much trouble you could always try a to learn another character as a secondary but while a hard matchup it is not an impossible one.

A lot of Luigi's will try to intercept your combos with n-air, so try to read that, shield, and punish accoridngly. He also has a gimpable recovery that gets demolished by Kirby's d-air, so use that. Also, take advantage of his really bad air mobility.

But yeah, Luigi is def one of Kirby's worst MUs. Not worst tho, just a really bad one.

Luigi's shield is really bad, you can pressure him when he charges at you, don't get hit by the fireball, if you shield it or get hit you get grabbed, crouching it doesn't really work just fly away and try to punish him when he does it not after. Luigi is easy to gimp if you learn to read the side b or down b. Gimp horizontally as it will be more effective than spiking him. If you have customs i would recommend meteor stone as it will kill him off stage but it's risky. Smash DI his tornado downward from downthrow or you will be killed early but don't fastfall as you'll be able to punish him if done perfectly. His jab beats your jab, you must shield than punish him most often. An easy followup for a surprise kill is to grab the Luigi near the stage and pummel until he goes out, then when he is downward off stage try to stage spike him and/or up b him with either final cutter or upper cutter. Try to counterpick a stage where Luigi doesn't have even ground to fight you on like duck hunt or battlefield while avoiding stages with low ceilings. Try walling him with up air and bair.
