Smash Journeyman
I know this has asked before dozens of times, & I already looked into various methods, so please read first to see what I've already tried and what things I'm struggling to understand. What I'm trying to do is adjust the volume of songs individually because some songs have turned out quitter or louder than others, and a universal code doesn't seem to balance it out.
First I tried by altering the volume in audacity, but because Brawl has a set volume for every stage no matter how much I up the sound it does nothing. So I tried altering the brstm itself using the brstm converter. I'm using version 3.4.1, when i boot it up I select Show Volume/Quality control, on the left of the new window underneath amplitude, I select adjust in db. I looked up a decibel chart beforehand to make sure I don't blow out the speakers on my computer and wii, and experimented with values between 60db & 95, but no matter what, the brstm always comes out in a scaly, scratchy quality to the point where it's unlistenable. It's like hearing radio interference. (I have no idea what the 'Factor of' selection means, or anything else in the brstm converter window such as the 'sample rate adjustment' side. If any of those things have to do with why it's coming out so crappy, please let me know and what I should do.)
Next I tried doing it through Brawl Song Manager. I was told that on the bottom left there should be a button that allows you to change the volume of the brstm itself using values between 0-127 like in the game's code. I found it right below the window where you select stages. I press add and add what I think the appropriate value should be, then I save it using both 'Save info.pac' & 'Save GCT Codeset'. BUT WHEN I PLAY THE GAME NOTHING CHANGED! I even set one stage's songs at maximum volume yet it still did nothing.
& before you mention it, yes I'm aware of @standardtoaster thread on his code that should allow you to change song volumes. Here's the thing though, THAT THREAD IS USELESS TO ME since most people's comments are asking how to set a Universal volume level, when I'm specifically asking how to do each stage separately. (someone already gave me a modified RSBE01 file that has all the songs set at 90, and it still didn't do anything to solve the disparity between songs) or people who asked how to do that specifically never got answered, and even worse people who ask how to explain the process in absolute lame mans terms and ask for a step by step process, also never get answered.
Well, all except one, and the answer he got from @HolyGrunt involved a process in which you converted the GCT file into TXT format, then adding/removing the lines of code on text then converting it back to GCT. But this process was for, once again, for the universal code. If this process can be re-applied to what I wanna do, what codes do I need to find/alter/remove?
Brawl Box also came with an SSSE editor that looks like it could do the task swell, since when I click the 'view code' tab the codes look awfully similar to standardtoaster's, but I don't know how to use the program & I'm afraid of corrupting my SD card. If the SSSE editor is an easier method than trying to rewrite the code the someone please explain to me how to use it and what all the buttons, windows & tabs do. If I HAVE to get knee-deep in programming though, please explain to me in a step-by-step process and talk to me like I'm a caveman. I have NEVER done any programming before and coding wizards always think this stuff should be second nature to everyone, when it isn't. Talk to me as if I never touched a computer before!
& if I'm doing something wrong with the previous methods, please point them out, I'm at my ends wit trying t get this music pack finished
