How would I practice for tournament-level play? I want to start playing Project M competitively.

Do you get frustrated easily during friendlies? how many people have you ever played against?

Best way to practice would be to go out and find your scene's weekly or monthly meetings. There comes a point when, in order to progress as a player, one has to play as many new people as possible.

(a reason why Armada is so impressive is that he didn't have access to as many new opponents).

Yeah, just start going, spend time talking to people, asking why you lost if you lose badly, what you can do better, etc. Just getting out there

What does one do when there is no weekly scene nearby? I live in a very Melee town and the closest PM scene is 3 hours away. Given my income and my car's gas mileage, that's not feasible. For an actual tourney, sure, but just for fun/practice...

also, if your computer's decent (or you have the finances to make it so) there's always netplay. it's not perfect, but it's supposedly a huge step up from wifi.

Ask to start as a small side event to spark interest. You never know unless you try how big things can get.

I'm going to try to look into it. My big issues are that I will be starting my Master's this year (between that and work, not a whole lot of time) and that I don't have a good venue for anything bigger than a few people. Still, gonna try to find something. Already know a guy nearby who may try to have friendlies, so we'll see.

Practice

To practice, you will want to know what stages will be legal. Then you will want to play at least every few days, with your friends. Try to go to any fests that pop up. When you can't go to any fests and your friends are busy, put the pc on lv1-6 your choice, make it random, and play any random stage that will playable at the tournement. You play the computer on random because, there will people at the event that won't play the characters you played at the fests or that your buds played. This is good because, you can get a feel for the characters, that you have no knowledge on. You'll get some sort of a feel for what works on them and what their about. You play random stages so you can familiarize yourself with the stages.

Oh and use smashboards to learn stuff.
