Hello lads !
We all have a main or even mains, but we never talk about how and why did we choose them ?
This thread is here to talk about your little stories behind your main or mains and explain why do you like him so much. You can of course talk about multiple mains.

My main is of course the good ol' plumber Mario, with his brother Luigi and him as a doctor, Dr.Mario. I've started to maining them a long time ago back in Melee
In Melee, I was searching for a character that I liked but was still good. I've tried many characters, like Captain Falcon (that will be one of my secondaries), Mewtwo or Marth. After a long time, I've finally found my mains : Dr.Mario, Mario and Luigi. Dr.Mario and Mario were the two characters that I was playing the most, and I had a ton of fun with them. When I was battling my friends, I always switched between Dr.Mario and Mario. It was fun.
Then I've started playing Brawl, and at my deception, Mario wasn't really good. His tornado was gone and was replaced by the Fludd, from Super Mario Sunshine, a game that I wasn't a fan of. Dr.Mario was gone, wich was really sad, since he was really good in Melee. So I prefered to main Luigi in this game, thanks to his awesome recovery and his awesome gameplay. And even though Brawl was the game that made me discovered the franchise, it wasn't my favorite, mostly because my favorite trio wasn't there.
And then, a miracle happenned, Smash 4 was announced, and it looked awesome. I was still thinking to main Luigi in this game since Mario was still like Brawl. But then, someone leaked something very important that made me happy : Dr.Mario was back. This was unreal, this dude was just the biggest clone of the series ! But it was true, the doc was back, and now my trio was back. After playing a lot of Mario on the demo, I've decided to main him after testing Luigi and other characters. But it was like the old days : Doc and Mario were my best characters. The only difference was, Mario was my favorite. It's funny how my mains were just in a loop : apparition, disaperence and re-apparition.

I like maining Mario for two reasons : his bread and butter gameplay and his character.
Mario has always been a standard character, he's like Ryu from street fighter : no big weaknesses and no big advantages but still original on it's own. But Mario, like Ryu, is a great character to play. He's just the bread and butter character, but yet is still original, and fun to play. Maybe he has some problem to K.O sometimes, he's still a great character.
Just like Ryu, Mario also got his clone, Dr.Mario. I like maining him just because he's similar to Mario, with more power and less speed and recovery. Not so much to talk about him, it's just mario with a coat.
Luigi is kinda a weird fusion between Ken and Dan from Street Fighter : he's similar to Mario in some moves, but they are ridiculous like the moves of Dan. In general, I like playing Luigi just for his character. He's just goofy all the time.

So, what's the story behind your mains ? And why did you choose him/them ?

I've always loved silly characters, so Pacman getting announced was right up my alley. It helps that his playstyle is super wonky and full of neat little tricks. Also, Pacman just looks so happy to be here, it's hard not to love him.

I main my boy Marth.
One of the first games I've ever played was Fire Emblem 3 on the Super Famicom. My aunt is Japanese, and when she married my uncle she brought her SF with her and FE3. I was very young at the time (5 or 6) and couldn't understand a word on the screen. I followed her instructions and watched her play.
When Melee came out in Christmas 2001 (which my aunt got for me that year) I unlocked Marth in like a day. When I realized that he was the same guy from my aunt's game, I had to pick him.
It's a little upsetting because when I go to Smash fests, people think I'm a tryhard and only pick Marth because he's top tier. I'm all about character loyalty in any game. No matter how good or bad, I'll always pick my favorite. Marth holds a certain nostalgia in my heart.
I think I might be the only person in America that knew who Marth was when Melee was first released.

P.S. I also had the VHS of the Fire Emblem anime from like 98 or 99 so even then he was a familiar character to me :)

I like big heavy characters who smash people's faces in. Not just in Smash but in all games. I play tanks in MOBAs, I play Heavy in TF2, and when I booted up Melee for the first time as a kid, I saw Bowser and the rest is history.

I chose :4luigi:, :4falcon:, :4wario2:, and :4falco: for my mains because of my original liking for each of them and their playstyle.

:4luigi:: I never liked my Mario as much as I liked Luigi. I always thought it was ironic that Mario's nickname is "Jumpman" when his younger, awkward brother can jump higher than him. Luigi is such a wildcard in Melee and Brawl which kept my opponents on their toes when facing me. I'm sad that his Green Missile and recoveries are nerfed this time around, now it's more risky to use the Green Missile.

:4falcon:: Whenever I play Falcon in Melee, I feel like a relentless killing machine. I would combo my friends with his N-air then punish with constant Knees of Justice and spikes. I honestly haven't played every F-Zero game but I've seen the anime. I always think of Falcon as the only Smash character that can translate well in traditional fighter. His Brawl transition was unbearable, I'm glad he's buffed again.

:4wario2:: Despite disliking Waluigi, I always had a soft-spot for Wario. His games give him a more humorous personality compared to the Mario Bros. and his play style also captures a wild card element. His air game was unbelievable in Brawl. I always preferred his classic look over WarioWare. His Brawl Shoulder charge should return, the new one leaves Wario more open if it fails.

:4falco:: Falco easily was one of the most entertaining co-pilots in Star Fox 64. He reminds me a lot like Han Solo, a jerkass with a heart of gold. In Melee I never got use to Fox's blinding speed and lightweight. Falco suited my play style: fast and controllable, can take huge risks for huge rewards, and for scoring easy kills on my friends.

Up until recently, I picked up :4mario:(received huge buff compared to Brawl), :4darkpit: (2edgy4me his side-b is fun to use in sticky situations), :4yoshi: (he's a monster this time around), and :4duckhunt: (his hit box is unreal!).

"Dude, Zero Suit is so hot, I'm gonna play her" -my friend

Then I played her after he wrecked me, and just started playing her a lot.
I played Fox in melee because he's so good, TL in Brawl because he's really easy for me to play, and in the new one, G&W seemed really goofy and trolly so I decided to pick him up.

My only notable mains stories occurred in Brawl and especially Smash 4.

Let's start with Brawl first shall we. In the first two games I've only ever played as Mario and Link because I just find them familiar to know and easy to play as. Once Brawl came out though I had two more mains that I used as often as, if not possibly more, than the first two.

:lucas: - I only started playing him because of Subspace Emissary (I always liked that mode back in Brawl actually) but I grew to love his gameplay. I never got the hang of Ness before so trying out the other Earthbound character is worth a shot, and a shot worth taking. There's just something about him that's so adorkable similar to Luigi without feeling all awkward and floaty for my tastes. I was sad to see him get cut for Smash 4, but DLC is still a possibility and there's always a chance.

:sonic: - Oh good lord where do I BEGIN. This guy was the reason I got into video games in the first place and, like everyone else, my mind imploded when Mario and Sonic were going to star in Smash Bros at the same time. Granted I'm not as good with him as the other three but it's just so fun zipping around the stage and outspacing everyone. It'd be nice if I could step up my game so I don't seem too slow, but that's for another time.

And now Smash 4, oh man Smash 4. This is the first in the series where I was exposed to a lot more franchises aside from this series. None of the past four mains I've had are mains in this game, in fact only Mario remained as a secondary. I really found these three characters to be intricate, unique, and just so fitting to my playstyle.

:4shulk: - My de-facto main in this game. The moment I saw his trailer I figured he was just another swordsman, but secretly wished that like Robin he'd bring something new to the table. Then his Monado Arts came into play: Jump, Speed, Shield, Buster, and Smash all make him the best at something while granting him weaknesses to balance all his stances. I figured he'd be fun to play but he may be too complicated to use since you have to manage his stances while keeping track of all they bring to the table. When I finally got the full game and tried him out though it was love at first sight. I started to really love this character and the amount of potential he can do in the right hands, you just need to have a really good feel of this guy before shelving him away. Get past that initial stage and you'll really start feeling the Monado's Power.

:4megaman: - This is the only main I recognized prior to their trailer and man did Nintendo pour their love for him. His entire moveset, animation, even as far as his down taunt payed nice homages to the classic Mega Man games. His gameplay reminds me of Snake from Brawl except Mega Man relies more on mid-range combat above all else thanks to his Mega Buster encompassing his jab, FTilt and Nair. By virtue of being in the demo I immediately tried him out first, though playing him was a rough start. I was used to getting up close and personal and using smash attacks thanks to Mario back in the past three games (don't ask), but then I tried using the Circle Pad to my advantage and tried my tilts for a much better performance. It's thanks to this guy that I'm able to expand my options not only for Shulk and Robin but for the entire cast (again don't ask). If I didn't try Shulk out beforehand, Mega Man would've been my main.

:4robinm:/:4robinf: - I absolutely loved how their moveset was shown in their trailer. The fact that a character from Fire Emblem finally broke the trend of being "a simple blue-haired sword user" with white hair and, more importantly, being such a unique fighter among the entire cast certainly helps a ton. When I finally tried him out in the game I couldn't get the hang of him like I could Shulk and Mega Man and just dropped him right away and moved on to others. Then I happened to watch a Smash 4 tourney with a very good Robin user, specifically Nairo and Trela. Seeing how they played Robin convinced me to give this tome user a shot one more time using some of the stuff I saw in their performances. Needless to say Robin's now a perfect fit for me and is now my 3rd and final main for this game. Now it's really time to tip the scales in my favor.

I main my boy Marth.
Just letting you know I really respect you. I feel like there really are very few people who have actual character loyalty to Marth, let alone for reasons like your own. Keep being a cool person.

As for me, I originally mained Yoshi in 64 because Yoshi's Island was a game my sisters and I played as kids, and it held a lot of nostalgia for me even in 99 when I got Smash. I then moved to Luigi because he was green and awesome. Then, Kirby because Kirby was cute and badass. I tried to play Ness, but he was/is terrible.

For Melee, my mains were basically Bowser firstly because Bowser was always one of my favorite characters. I remember being really happy when I heard he was in Melee. Luigi and Doc I played a lot because they were better at dealing with my friends' Falcos and Marths. I tried Mewtwo for a bit, but I was also bad with him.

I wanted to main Metaknight for Brawl, but once it was obvious he was OP, I stopped caring. Ike was my second favorite aside from Bowser, but I lost interest in him quickly because he was pretty boring. Lucas I also used on day one, and used him on-and-off for Brawl's lifespan. I went on to main Ganondorf, tried out Wolf, all with little success because I wanted to be better at the game.

Project M became a subject of interest after a smash hiatus, and immediately Lucas' ridiculousness had me hooked. It was about that time I was beginning to like the psychic characters more, because psychokinesis is badass and because I was learning a lot more about fundamentals so I wasn't straight up awful with them. Plus, Lucas is freaking adorable and his story has a lot of emotion to it. Bowser remained a strong interest. Metroid Prime had been my favorite game since 06 or so, but I never played Samus in a Smash game because I couldn't play her style. I began to change that with Project M. ROB's linear movements and airdashes were interesting to me, plus I like robots. I picked up Wolf again after learning some Lucas tech/more fundamentals, and him and Ness are characters I'm still working on in PM. Metaknight I picked up randomly one day and I was like "wow this character is really good" and he wasn't horribly broken like in Brawl. Happy endings!

Finally, for Smash 4, so many of my favorite characters who were awful in previous games, or were bad because I couldn't play their style, suddenly became pretty viable. Plus, some of my favorite characters in Nintendo became newcomers: Shulk and Jr. Samus is good enough, Ness is amazing, Bowser is probably high/top tier, ROB is really solid, and I LOVE Villager's playstyle, plus the villager meme is just amusing. Shulk is the only character I have a problem with because I think he's bad in Smash 4 right now. Maybe not unviable, but comparatively pretty bad.

Essentially, I pick mains based on interest in the series, the character themselves, or their playstyle in a particular game. I try to be pretty loyal across the board, though Kirby after Smash 64 was just boring, and frankly he's been poor in basically every game since.

I loved playing Pokemon all the time on my Game Boy, so seeing Pikachu as a playable fighter blew my mind.

Easy. I play whoever I actually enjoy playing. No point in maining a character that is no fun to play. It varies from game to game obviously. Even the most subtle changes can make a character no longer enjoyable to me. I dropped so many fighting games due to not finding a single character I even like to play. If I enjoy multiple characters, I'll switch between them quite often just so I don't get bored.

My criteria is:

1. Style
2. Animations
3. Diversity of the moveset

:kirby64: Despite practically having no experience with 64, Kirby is good... yeah
:gawmelee::gw: from Melee throughout Brawl, Game and Watch has always held the place in my heart as the character that is me: A goofy guy. He was always so happy with the world and, you know, Turtles. I have a pet turtle... Ok.
:4shulk::4shulk::4shulk::4shulk::4shulk::4shulk::4shulk:: He really feels my play style

I mained Jigglypuff because back in Smash 64, all my friends thought she was this useless jokey character that couldn't fight, and for some reason that made me want to use her. Of course I was a kid so all I really knew how to do with her was Sing and Rest, but it was enough to beat my friends and shut them up. Since then I've had a kind of loyalty to Puff and played her in every Smash since, at least a little bit. She always felt like the underdog to me.

"In order to play Douglas, your biggest organs have to be your heart and your balls" - Gravy

Falcon in Melee:

- Very fast paced, you're constantly moving whether you're going in or baiting for an opportunity
- Huge emphasis on fast reaction, reading the habits of your opponents, and both positioning and spacing
- The potential to zero-to-death an entire stock regardless of character off of a single hit or grab into a fat combo
- Lots of mobility, good range on aerials, satisfying punishes
- The way I play Falcon is very glass cannon. Go hard or go home.
- Uair

Falcon in Smash 4:

- Buffed Dash Attack and Gentleman
- Can catch rolls easy which is a great thing to have in Smash 4
- Lots of frame traps and combos
- Fast paced and mobile in comparison to the majority of the cast in the context of Smash 4

Captain Falcon.

Main him for a few reasons (namely Smash 4 - but even when I go back and play melee). Firstly, I just always liked F-Zero, but really what I generally do when I pick up games with multiple playstyle options is I try to find something that speaks to me. When I got smash 4 I played through a few CPU and training mode games with most the chars, fortunately I had some prior experience (not much, I was not a hardcore melee or brawl player at all). Falcon just spoke to me the most, I liked his move set, I combo'd (badly) with him quicker than I did with other chars, and could map moves a bit better.

Sonic is sort of my main alt char. I almost want to main him, but I am not quite as in tune with him. Again in part I just love Sonic because I was a sega kid at first and played through Sonic fully before I got a snes. But more than anything, he was a "high tier" (as of right now) char that had solid match ups that again just spoke to me.

I also love Marth - in part because of his iconic status from Ken and Azen days (I was actually at one the MLG's that Ken won playing a different game, and I caught a bit of his run there - just stuck my head in to the room). And for much the same reason I love jigglypuff, just because of those comical times with hungrybox and mango early days - also like hungrybox says, its a bit of a gimic character, and now I am slowing down (I am not the young gamer I used to be) - I can sort of cheese a bit more on him.

I first played Melee back in 2004, and Melee was also the very first smash bros. game I ever played. Starting out I had really no clue who was my favorite character. I jumped back and forth a lot between :pikachumelee:, :mariomelee:, and :falcomelee:. However, even all of those three characters are fun to play IMO, I ultimately settled on :drmario: after playing as the other three characters some more. Since I was a young and naive elementary-schooler at the time, I didn't have the patience to get over Falco's decently steep learning curve. Also, TBH I was awful at playing Pikachu. I was settled on Mario for a while until I switched to the good doctor later on because of two reasons: (1.) Doc has an M.D. (2.) Even though Doc is slower, the speed decrease isn't significant, and at the same time Doc is also slightly stronger than Mario. In the end, I ultimately settled on Doc. I rarely play Melee anymore, but when I do, I always go to the man with the M.D.

(Fast Forward: circa 2008 AD)
For Brawl, I played as :mario2: for a while since he's similar to Doc and Doc isn't in Brawl, so Mario seemed like the best alternative. However, I then noticed that Mario got way nerfed coming into Brawl. Even though I have won some matches as Mario, they've been almost always against casuals. After finally giving up, I switched to :falco: more recently. I don't play Brawl that much, but I would like to continue to hone my Falco skills when I have the time to do so. I would like to have more time in Brawl, but college work isn't exactly easy.

As for the latest game, :4mario: is my go-to character. He is buffed from Brawl and now back on track. I've enjoyed using Mario much more in 3DS than in Brawl, so Mario is once again my main. Success rate is now higher than in Brawl and I am glad Mario is buffed. I will continue to enjoy the famous plumber.

I like Pit because his voice is super duper annoying, so I can taunt at my opponents if i manage to launch them off stage.
... maybe i ought to play the duck hunt dog...
I found eventually just through playing Randoms on Glory mode that I did well with float characters that racked up damage fast and had gimpy projectiles, so that was Pit.
I also like playing Shulk cus he can play in his undies

I remember when I first got into Melee competitively, I spent a lot of time looking for a main. I went through all of my PM mains at the time to see who I liked the most. I mained Kirby in PM at the time, and I ended up playing him for a while. After I started losing pretty much all of my games, I thought about who I could switch to. I figured that Jigglypuff was similar enough and tried her out. Boy, was I in for a surprise. I had no idea I would love her playstyle so much. Her combination of floatiness and strength was just amazing. She in now one of my favorite characters to play in any Smash game, and is my favorite Pokemon too :D

In 64 and Melee Smash, my main might as well have been Pikachu (and Mewtwo, even if it was a chore), though I wasn't really aware of the competitive scene at the time and had no local gamer friends.

In Brawl, my main was definitely Wolf. The Star Fox characters were always pretty fun to play as anyway, but I loved the weight and extra resilience and power Wolf brought in, plus the aggressive close-range play style I got to employ. I've always been more of a gung-ho player and enjoy putting pressure on opponents.
Also, he had pretty sweet character animations.

I'm pretty sure I'll be maining Charizard for Smash 4. I liked him in Brawl (it was my big wish as a kid to have him playable someday, and I was floored when it happened), but I hated his timed character 'breakdown' and never got to play him the way I wanted to.

The fact that he's a standalone character now and seems significantly buffed - or at least more viable in general - has me pretty excited. I prefer playing heavier characters to light puffballs, just because it's so much fun to land That One Big Hit everyone is afraid of. XD

When I was back in casual times, my mains were Sonic, Marth, and Ike in brawl because Fire emblem is one of my favorite series, and Sonic has always been a favorite character of mine (even though I haven't played the games that much).

Eventually for PM Sonic was my dream playstyle and I picked him up and I loved how he moved and all his options and such and it was just a perfect fit, while Ike didn't feel good at all, and I kinda have a pocket Marth.

Melee I've actually only recently gotten into and tier lists aside, the easiest character for me to control is Fox ironically enough. For the best translation of what my mind wants to do and what actually happens, fox was my best choice.

In Melee I just played the characters I thought were cool, being that I was young.
I played Link because I had loved Ocarina of Time and liked his sword. :linkmelee:
I played Kirby because of his copy abilities in Melee.:kirbymelee:
I used Mewtwo because he was the coolest Pokemon on the roster. I mean who didn't like Mewtwo at the time? I stopped playing him because Brawl and I didn't really want to use him.
Throughout the years I just felt comfortable with using Kirby and Link, and I stuck with them. Bottom tier or not, I was determined to git gud with Link and Kirby.
To this day I still use them, and I consider myself a very good Link main.:link2::kirby2:
Kirby however, I need a bit of help with him, I've neglected him in favor of updated Pit. I've been looking for someone to help me with Kirby to no avail.:4kirby:
For Smash 4, I searched for third main to help with matchups.
I tried :4robinm::4megaman::4metaknight::4pikachu::4lucario::4samus:, but I came out with :4pit:.
Alas, I feel comfortable with Pit, so Kirby has been shunted to a lesser role, so to speak because I pick Link for most of my matches.:4pit:
I guess it's just familiarity, but regardless of tier I'm sticking with Link.:4link:
I'm also the type of person to use the lesser picked characters. Pit is the only exception, but thats only because he is so fun to use, I love his moves and play style. I dabble in Sheik sometimes.:4sheik:
I try to stick with a small amount of characters, and I only switch when I feel my character has a bad matchup.

I don't really remember the story for 64 or melee(never played that much Brawl) but in 3ds I tried to find a character with whom I could be very expressive with my play style and also effective. I first started out with Megaman just because I like him, bit I quickly found out that he is played as a camping/baiting character and that turned me off from him. I then went to Peach since I mained her in melee but her lack of KO power frustrated me. I then switched to Pacman simply because I was surprised to noice he was even in the game. I found he had quick normals, projectiles, varied recovery options and above all else his animaions and playstyle lends it self to be soing wonderfully trollish I just couldn't help but to main him. And there you go!

Ike, because I like fighting for my friends. Jk, I beat the **** outta my friends when I play Ike :p Big Fire Emblem fan, and I really like the way his character plays in Smash, even if he is a little slow. He's got power, and I tend to appreciate that. Also a fan of Rosalina...I've always enjoyed her character, ever since Galaxy came out however long ago that was. Also getting into Shulk because...well, because he's Shulk, that's why.

He's got power, and I tend to appreciate that. Also a fan of Rosalina...I've always enjoyed her character, ever since Galaxy came out however long ago that was. Also getting into Shulk because...well, because he's Shulk, that's why.

My BFF in Scotland used to main Ike in Brawl.

I was so afraid of him. While I usually managed to beat him (mostly through a greater dedication to and more practice with Smash in general), it remains that out of all the characters I played against, even broken MK, his Ike was a force of nature.

Slow doesn't mean anything when you're Ike.

All you have to do is just poke the c-stick and wait for some poor sucker to fancy-dance into a hit. XD

Before I got Brawl, I had a friend who always told me how cheap :ike: is. *instantmain*
The same friend kept crapping on :gw:, so I picked him up for fun and got good as him.
:diddy: Be trippin' like :GCD::GCB:
:sheilda: I like the variety.
:wolf: I like his swagger.

:4myfriends::4gaw: Brawl
:4robinm:/:4robinf:/:4lucina: I have spent over 400 hours of my life playing Fire Emblem: Awakening.
:4ness: I like his accent/moveset.
:4greninja: He was my starter in Pokemon X/Y. Plus, the aforementioned friend loves Pokemon but doesn't have a 3DS. Plus, frog ninja tongue scarf.

Haha, appreciate you sharing that story. I never really used the c-stick much in Brawl, but when I get my hands on the Wii U version, I'm gonna utilize that function like no other. Can't wait for it...

Back when I was a kid playing Melee, I didn't have a main and I wasn't particularly good. My favorite characters to play as cycled a lot but I was never particularly good as anyone. Despite this though, Peach was always a character I found amusing. I always enjoyed the irony of how she could repeatedly get kidnapped in the Mario games and yet still kick everyone's butt in Super Smash Bros. She was the first character I managed to defeat Master Hand and Crazy Hand as and it was at that point that I decided she was my main. It was only at that point that I began to get decent at the game.

Later on in Brawl, I decided I needed a secondary main to play alongside Peach. I settled on Zamus because I found her to be as interesting and fun to control as Peach. I found her stun gun to be unique in the same way as Peach's floating and turnips.

I picked up Jigglypuff very, very late in Brawl (all the way to the point when I was anticipating Smash 4) pretty much only because all my friends would complain to me about the way I'd only ever use Peach or Zamus. For some reason, I always gravitated toward Jigglypuff when picking a character other than them. I guess I found her to be an oddball character in a similar way. She was awful in Brawl but I still managed to enjoy her. I'm so glad she's buffed in Smash 4.

:4yoshi: -> I love this freaking weird dinosaur since Mario Kart: Super Circuit. When I started playing brawl, I felt frustrated because, for some reason, I wasn't able to be "good" with him. I delayed 1 year to finally decide to give a chance to him and he became my main. Now in smash 4 he's a lot better so yeah.

:lucas:-> I started maining him after a random guy told me that Lucas was a lot better than Ness in Brawl (I was also a n00b at the time), so I believed him. Though he's definitely not a very good character, I really enjoyed maining him in Brawl. And now I can enjoy a buffed version of him in a mod.

:4greninja:-> What can I say about this badass ninja? He's just so freakin' awesome I can't describe him.

:4ness: -> My first main in Brawl. When I first fought against him, I though: "wow this character looks so stylish I NEED to win this battle and unlock him!!!". This was before I played Earthbound.

:4jigglypuff:-> He's (mine is male :w) so fun to play with, I love using him against my friends.

:4wiifit:-> When I first saw her reveal, I laughed A LOT and decide to main her for that reason.

:4villager:-> Really fun to play with.

I main the man of justice, honour and pure manliness, Douglas Jay Falcon! :falcon:

I had never really thought about playing Falcon until recently. My only attachment to him was his hilarious catchphrases, until I saw players like Shofu use him in SSB4. That's when I thought to myself "This guy's so crazy, he's hilarious!" (Falcon I mean, not Shofu :p ), and after giving him a go, I realised I was actually not bad as him. A couple of days practice later and he became my main! All he really had to do was... "Show me his moves!"

So after finding interest in Shulk, Lucia, Kirby and even renewed interest in Peach I have dropped them all to co main Megaman along with PacMan. Now that i understand the game much better, his limited to zoning play doesn't bother me anymore, in fact I find it a lot f fun. I may keep Lucina around as a secondary since I think she compliments some of the matchups my other characters have difficulty with.

Smash 64:

:link64: Link - OoT hype made me choose him.

Melee:

:younglinkmelee: Young Link - I preferred YL over Link becauseof the speed difference, (i prefer speed over power)

:mewtwomelee: Mewtwo - Loved his grabs and moveset.

Brawl:

:sonic: Sonic - Favorite video game character ever and cause it just felt so right.

:link2: Link - used Link since Smash 64, why stop now?

Smash 4:

:4sonic: Sonic - My main main. Will always be my main. And amazing buffs.

:4link: Link - Again, always mained Link, will never not main Link.

:4bowserjr: Bowser Jr - The reveal trailer got me hooked but actually using him andseeing his unique moveset put the nail in the coffin/

64:
:ness64: Even before I played EarthBound, Ness just felt... great.
:luigi64: He's my favourite Mario character.
:falcon64: I just love playing as this guy.

Melee:
:marthmelee: I honestly don't remember why I picked him. He felt good to play I guess.
:luigimelee: Same as above.

PM:
:ness2: He plays perfectly, and I can adapt my 64 playstyle to him.
:lucas:I absolutely loved Mother 3, and I switched to Lucas because Ness still didn't feel quite right in Brawl.
:luigi2: Again, my favourite Mario character.

Sm4sh:
:4ness: by this point I had played and beaten EarthBound, so Ness was a no brainer to me. He feels great to play in this, too.
:4shulk: His playstyle felt great to me, as I'm used to rush down characters.
:4luigi: I can't say enough good about the guy. He is an excellent combo character, as well as the above reason.
:4lucina: Awakening is awesome. Still salty about Chrom though...
:4pit: Uprising is also awesome.
:4kirby: I'll admit it. I love playing as him.

I picked Marth because I've always felt a bond to Marth as a character. When I was really young, my family was somewhat wealthy, but when i was a teenager my mom and I were ostracized, and we had nothing for a while. Eventually, she, my brother and I fought our way back to living the good life.

Something about that falling from success and then redemption drew me to Marth when I used to play the fan made FE translations, and as soon as I unlocked him in melee, I knew that was it.

Smash 64:
:luigi64: : As the younger brother, my destiny was always this guy on the Mario games... And I loved him. The shoryuken felt so good.

Melee:
:younglinkmelee: : First character I've ever used. He feels so great and comfort, I really don't know why I love him, I just do.
:roymelee: : Roy's our boy! The first and only character I unlocked on a friend GC... He just means so much for me that I can't let him go.

Brawl:

:olimar:: I wanted a more "competitive" main, and this guy proved to be quite effective. Also the Pikmin series. Love that one.
:ivysaur:: Don't really know why, I just love this guy.

PM:

:roypm:: My good old friend now even better.
:falco:: I suck with him so badly, but he's fun.

Smash 4:

:4ness:: Ohhh boy... the sentimental connection I have with this guy. Mother 2 it's my favorite game of all time, and I always wanted to use him. But I've never felt so great with him as much as in this game... Really happy that happened, he will always be one of my most used characters.
:4megaman:: Mega Man in Smash. One of my favorite franchises. Representation after so many years. I don't think I need to explain this one.
:4olimar:: He was one of the chars I wasn't going to use, but after days... I felt so bad looking at him, nobody likes him now.... So I picked him up again, hoping that some day I'll give him some of the glory that he deserves.
