I'm going to practice for a melee tourney that's happening at school.
Although I don't have melee, I have project m, and I'm using Roy.
Will the project M practice be good enough?

Accurate? Project M is its own game. While its mechanics are largely inspired by SSBM, its differences are not mere inaccuracies, they are often intended design decisions. You'd struggle heavily switching between Melee and PM Roy, as much of his moveset is functional in PM while it doesn't work very well in Melee. His jumpsquat is also lower, likely messing with your muscle memory for wavedashing and the like.
