How a sequel to Playstation Allstars might be Smash Bros. (no bias)

Before I start, let me say I grew up as both a Nintendo and Playstation fan. My first console was a PS1 but my first handheld was a Gameboy. I eventually got a Wii, Gamecube, N64, DS, 3DS, Wii U, NES, SNES and even a virtual boy along side a PS2, PS3, PS4 & PSP. I like both Smash and Allstars so I don't want people to think I'm being bias or a fanboy on this topic considering the site I'm posting this in. Anyway, I love my copy of Smash 4, in fact Smash Bros. is what got me into gaming. From Smash 64, Melee, Brawl and to Wii U/3DS I was hoping one day we'd get more games like Smash.

Then on E3 2012 Sony announced Playstation Allstars Battle Royale for both the PS3 and Vita with Cross-buy (or whatever it's called) at first I was excited but still skeptical. I had a feeling this was just a shameless rip off to Smash Bros like the Move was to the Wii Remote. I looked at a gameplay video and got a bit more excited. It was mot likely inspired by Smash sense it didn't simply copy and paste the original gameplay and tried something different with the Allstars moves. In fact, doing some research I found out there were 2 other ideas in consideration for the gameplay of PSASBR. One was going to be done by Naughty Dog and it was going to be a King of the Hill like fighter but they were too busy with The Last of Us to make the game. The 2nd was similar to what we have now except it would be on a circle like stage and characters could jump from one side of the stage to the other. If it was really a shameless rip off like Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion, it would've just copy and pasted the control scheme and gameplay style. It's even more different to Smash than Rivals of Aether is (not saying anything bad about that game in fact I am also excited for that title) I especially got excited when Sackboy and Spike from Ape Escape were announced sense I grew up with those 2 games. In fact Allstars got me to try Uncharted, Infamous & other games.

Eventually the game came out on November of 2012 and I loved it (maybe not as much as Smash but still) I got the DLC for Kat, Emmett Graves, Zeus & Isaac Clarke like how I got Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy, Ryu & Cloud for Smash. And it didn't sell bad at all, it sold over 1,000,000 units.

Smash 4 sold even more though by April 2015 it sold over 4,000,000 units on both the Wii U & 3DS.

Despite this, I have a firm belief that one day Smash will be thrown off its throne by another Cross Over Platform Fighter. Nothing last forever, so then I though what could beat Smash? Well, it depends on a lot of things but one of the things that could is Playstation Allstars Round 2 and I'm going to explain how.

1. Characters
The main argument everyone has is that Nintendo has more recognizable characters than Playstation and while I agree with things like Mario, Link & Pikachu. I still have to argue that not everyone grew up with Nintendo. There might be some people who will know Ratchet & Clank more than Kirby or Xbox fans who know any Gears of War character than Donkey Kong. Hell, I didn't even know who Link or Samus were until the time of Brawl, due to the fact I owned a PS1 and PS2 before I got any Nintendo home console.

All we need is more characters and 3rd party guests and the best part is more than half the game could be guest fighters. How? Smash is a Nintendo cross with some guests but PSASBR is not a Sony fighter but a fighter to showcase the history of the Playstation Brand. Even a lot of the Smash guest fighters could be guests in Allstars. Sonic with Sonic Heroes, Pac-Man with Pacman World, Megaman with the PS1 X games, Ryu with Street Fighter 5, Cloud with the original Final Fantasy 7 and the Remake that's coming to PS4 first, Snake with the Solid series & Bayonetta with her first game on both PS3 and Xbox 360. And even more, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, Gex from the Gex series, Klanoa & Rayman sense he started on Playstation. Even Shovel Knight & Shantae with her recent adventure could be in PSASBR. And characters from Japans Anime-like games like the Monokuma from Danganronpa and Yu from Persoa 4

As for Crash, as much as I love the character I don't think we need him. Don't get me wrong I think it would be great to see him in the game but the thing is. He's only been the mascot of the PS1 for 1/2 of it's life, is now owned by Activision & we already have a Playstation mascot in PSASBR. Toro has been the Japanese mascot of Playstation even longer than Crash, in fact Sony has been trying to make him a universal mascot for Playstation.

We could get characters from SEGA, Namco, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Activision, Square-Enix, EA, K2, 505 Games, Lab Zero, Yacht Club Games, Team Meat, Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Sony, Santa Monica, Disney (with Sora), Oddworld Productions, ect

They just need to make better choices.

2. Marketing
Sense Playstation Allstars was announced the same year as it's release and the little to no marketing it had it's amazing it still sold over 1,000,000 units. But the PS4 has sold over 30 Million units sense it's release in 2013 as the Wii U has only sold 11 Million (from the last time I checked) sense it's release in 2012. All because of the PS4's marketing. If we had that marketing for Allstars it would greatly help. Also Smash had things like character trailers, directs, pic of the day, ect. Allstars neds to give more of a reason for people to feel hype and fuel an Allstars Hype Train.

3. New gameplay style
It was a unique idea but it fell flat.
My suggestion; add health meters. But not like Street Fighter were it becomes a standard fighting game. Not that I have a problem with those games but they often fit more with competitive players as Smash has the capability to be both Casual and Competitive. Allstars needs something that can be that adaptive.

-Give characters more speed
-A bit more gravity in the air
-Health meters (and when a character is out of health they explode as if they were hit by an allstar move but respawn with full health
-Only 1 allstar move that won't instantly defeat the opponent but deal great damage
-more options
-ect

4. More Options
-Adventure Mode (with fully animated and voiced cutscenes)
-A unique style that can put realistic characters and cartoonish ones together (something like Final Fantasy's look or Kingdom Hearts's Kingdom Shader)
-More modes
-Online Options
-Music
-Stages
-Goals
-Characters
-ect.

5. Make it PS4 Exclusive
Yes the Vita is still there but if we develop the game on both the PS4 and the Vita, the PS4 version will be limited in content like how Smash 4 couldn't have the Ice Climbers. Also the PS4 has sold over 30,000,000 units sense November 22nd so it works. The PS3 had more but the game was released near the end of the PS3's life time and a year before the PS4's release.

6. Bigger Budget & Development time
The original game was limited due to it's low budget & development time. Give it more time and more of a budget to add everything it needs to be successful

With all of that I feel like maybe the game COULD potentially beat Smash off of it's throne...maybe

With that being said here's a list I made of 150 characters who could work in Allstars. Not a dream roster but characters that should at least be considered.
