I've known this kid for a while. He always was on the slow side and whatever. Came into the Geometry final exam with a piece of paper outlining the basic shapes, rectangles and circles and cute little parallelograms thrown all over the paper. He's a big guy, larger than me in terms of height at least, and has a voice so heavy and low that it's hard to understand just what the hell he's saying. It's not uncommon to ask, "What?" two or three times for everything he says. He always seemed stupid to me, not worth talking to, not worth associating with, not worth anything. He was just a big, dumb guy who stuck around people I knew. People grow up though, myself included (thank God), and I'm beginning to see why someone can get so stupid. I might just be concentrated on mental illness now though, as I've recently read through Ken Kesey's most famous work, so that might just be a thing. I've wondered about him before this, though.
The first of his revelations to "us" was his overbearing parents. I can look back at these first bits of information leaked and see that his parents are that, even if I didn't think it at the time. Short story short, he happens to be the prime suspect in the household. Prime suspect of being a closet case. So paranoid are the parents, hidden cameras are set up while friends are over, not in hopes of catching St. Nick, but catching him fondling his boyfriend's ****. Sure, that never seemed to stop, as his parents apparently thought the appropriate course of action was a psychologist, but details on this fade into obscurity. Maybe around this time I would have thought, Just what is going on with this guy's family. It didn't really become a thing I thought about, why should I. Not being his friend or anything, I'm positive I've missed other bits and pieces of his life up to the present, but that doesn't matter too much.
And then it was suddenly revealed that he was at a hospital. Now that you mention it, he hasn't been here all week, and it's Friday, Friday...next week starts and there he is.
"Where the hell have you been?"
"Hothpital!"
He says it in a proud, muffled way.
At the mental hospital he was, after his parents dropped him off there to stay the week. He said it was boring and he didn't get why he went, even though he acknowledged his parents did it because, "Day dot I was depressed. I dunno."
And then his parents, I guess, tell him that his anti-depression medicine is for acne, but he found out.
The most shocking thing that I saw with him though was his phobia of drugs. Marijuana, heroin, whatever. It makes him freak out, I've never seen someone as scared as he was when some *** showed him a picture of a person injecting heroin. Flashed his iPod at him and he let out a muffled "Noo!" turned the other way, shielded his face from the thing, turned red and started shaking while saying, "No no no no, get it away."
Weird stuff.
