Hey, so I've read good, positive things from both the Hori Mini Pad, and the Superpad 64 (also known as the MakoPad 64). However, I've never seen the two of them go head to head in a review, most probably because they're both so hard to obtain...

I was wondering if anyone here ever had the chance to try and compare the two of them for Smash play. Which one did you prefer and why? Unless of course, you prefer the classic controller over the 2, and why.

I don't own one of these, but I have a friend who has one. I prefer the hori pad, but the mako isn't bad.

The c-buttons are big and separated on the mako pad compared to the original (and the hori, which has them the same) which for me makes it inferior especially for playing fox or ness or characters that require really clutch movement. The c-buttons are not in a diamond but are more spread out. The buttons are clicky-plastic instead of the normal style. Considering I play ness by tilting my thumb downward to hit c-right, c-down and a in succession the pad doesn't really work for me. The z-button is also a bit awkwardly positioned and small which makes it a bit difficult to mash. The stick on the mako pad is also a bit weird - it feels like an original n64 stick, but it has much less resistance. The hori also has less resistance, but it is shaped more like a gamecube stick which I prefer.

From what I know and from watching the videos, I'd say that if you are dissatisfied with the button layout on the original controller, you'd probably like the Mako. If you are a fan of how the n64 controller's buttons are laid out and function, a hori is the better choice.

Can anyone confirm if either/both work with any n64>usb adapters?
The hori doesn't really work with adapters. Some people said they have had success with a n64>gc>pc adapter combo, while an adapter by raphnet is supposed to work but doesn't with my pad. I saw online that the mako works with the adaptoid, but I'm not sure about other adapters.

I like the hori better than the mako. Like firo said the butons on the mako are a bit wonky while the hori buttons are the same as a normal 64 controller. I also think the stick on the mako is uncomfortable personally, but over all it's a good controller. I tried the hori and mako with my adapter, but neither of them worked.

theres reports of the arduino usb adapter working with all 3rd party inc.
very loose confirmations though.
imo:

Horipad owned 5 tried 3: good stick, nice grip
bad: some sticks can feel loose, buttons are slightly raised and harder to slide onto. triggers are close together.

Superad owned 1 tried 1: the plastic feels weird and doesnt seem to last as long, standard stick can still give calluses (like all sticks i spose), corrupts memory cards and transfer pak's occasionally.
