To answer you more seriously, I would imagine anything that has the same logo as the fighters is their "home stage". For some of the hidden characters that you have to fight to unlock, I'd bet that "their stage" is whatever you fight them on.

Basically, any stages that matches the characters' series.

Series|Characters|Stages
Mario|Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Rosalina & Luma, Dr. Mario|3D Land, Golden Plains, Paper Mario, Rainbow Road, Mushroomy Kingdom
DK|Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong|Jungle Japes
Zelda|Link, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf, Toon Link|Gerudo Valley, Spirit Train
Metroid|Samus, Zero Suit Samus|Brinstar
Yoshi|Yoshi|Yoshi's Island
Star Fox|Fox, Falco|Corneria
Pokémon|Pikachu, Charizard, Lucario, Greninja, Jigglypuff|Prism Tower, Unova Pokémon League
Game & Watch|Mr. Game & Watch|Flat Zone 2
Fire Emblem|Marth, Ike, Robin, Lucina|Arena Ferox
Kid Icarus|Pit, Palutena, Dark Pit|Reset Bomb Forest
Mega Man|Mega Man|Wily's Castle
You get the gist.

Also, R.O.B., Wii Fit Trainer and Duck Hunt have no home stage, appearing on stages with no characters associated with them: Balloon Fight, Living Room, Find Mii, PictoChat 2 and Tomodachi Life. Think of it as a "Other Nintendo series" category.
