Smash Rookie
Hello all,
I'm pretty fresh into the competitive scene. As in, I haven't been to a tournament yet and mainly play with my roommate and friends. My interest in the competitive scene has been with me since Melee's competitive scene emerged way back when. I remember reading a Nintendo Power article on the community and learning about wavedashing and Ken, which got me interested, but I didn't really know anything about competitive Smash or its community until viewing The Smash Brothers documentary on Youtube.
Like I said I'm pretty fresh with competitive play. I've been playing my whole life but never took smash seriously at all until college. Out of my friends I am the most informed with tech skill, but I am by no means better than anyone I play with despite this. Because of this, I am very excited to develop greater tech skill and generally advance my skills within the games. My play style has always been a bit too aggressive, so I'm trying to remedy that and learn. Playing Jiggs has helped me with a more defensive game, and I feel as though I will always have a soft spot for her because of that. In fact, I feel as though I use her and Marth equally in Melee. I love playing with a larger pool of characters though, and I'd love to master lower tier characters. Innovation is one of my favorite things about Smash.
Other than that, I'm from Northwest Ohio; specifically Bowling Green. I haven't explored the boards enough yet, however I haven't really noticed any cohesive smash presence here, so I'd love to become a small tourney organizer/ create a club on BGSU's campus before graduating this semester. If anybody from BG is reading this, hit me up! As far as tourneys we'd have I would love to get some sort of monthly thing going on. Either that or a Smashfest whenever anyone is up for it.
Some other fun facts about myself:
-I love music. Mainly into psychedelic stuff and chill electronic stuff. I'll listen to anything good though. Digging Tame Impala's new album.
-I'm very much a retro gamer. I'll never get over playing Duck Hunt, Mario 3, Megaman, Sega games, etc.
-English is my major, so do with that what you will. I'm definitely into books though. Just picked up Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass today, somehow obtained a first edition copy of The Silmarillion, and I can't get enough of Shakespeare.
-Recently been watching anime. I am by no means well versed. I've watched a bit of SAO. Loved Death Note, but I was really rooting for Yagami Light. I'm currently filling the missing Dragonball in my life. I just started DBZ a couple weeks ago.
-I like tabletop RPGs. My friend actually made his own system that we play with a lot. We're just starting a new campaign too!
That's all the time I have for now. Looking forward to being a part of the community!
