Searched around for a HotS thread on here, but turned out there never was one, so I decided I might as well make one myself! Anyone looking to find more HotS players or talk about the game, this is the place! I'll probably add a player list or something up here in place of this text in the future, so be on the lookout for that!

Is it good? I watched some gameplay footage, and I actually had a beta invite at one point, but I think it might've expired.

Or does the beta invite expire? I'm gonna have to check on that.

I say give it a shot. I dig the fact that the game is more about objective play.

MOBA games really aren't for me but I enjoyed this one. I feel like less stain is placed on the individual and that it isn't nearly as micro oriented as most MOBAs.

Plus I get to be MURADIN BRONZEBEARD. Never underestimate the power of nostalgia.

Beta invite doesnt ever expire I dont think, but this is definitely a good game to get into, the learning curve is MUCH easier for new players, especially if you've played other MOBAs before. The games especially fun if you have friends to play with, since the game is entirely team/objective based, and thanks to the face paced, nonstop action, and short length of games, wins feel really rewarding and loses usually arent as taxing as they are in other MOBAs since you arent putting an hour worth of time into each game. I used to be SUPER into LoL, but Ive rarely played it since HotS since I just enjoy this game so much more. Only time Ive played League really since Heroes was when friends needed one more for a 5 in LoL.

Just bumping this thread because I started to play HotS release day. I have to say that I don't personally like it as much as LoL because it lacks the complexity (no items, no masteries, no rune pages, etc.), there seems to not be as much of a consequence for losing, and the whole-team level up system is a bit of an odd design choice as it would not give one person a reward for doing super-well in lane.

In addition to that, I have had more experiences of people being rude to me in the HotS community than I have had in League. Out of all of the games I've played, more than half of them have someone acting like a sniveling ten-year-old, crying that it isn't fair how they've been put with such "horrible" teammates when really they're the problem. Usually I have only about 30-40% of League games like that (and DOTA is much better than that in regards of the community). I could imagine that the people in Beta testing were more courteous, but now the great mobs have infiltrated.

The champ-select in quick matches is a bit frustrating to me because we can't coordinate on team comp, strategies, and the such. I can see how this would be circumnavigated by playing with friends, but that shouldn't detract from if you are playing alone. The match lengths are also much shorter than any other MOBA I've played, but that's a good thing (more matches in less time) and a bad thing as well (any matches that will be played will be much less developed). I also feel like this game doesn't really have different phases that you naturally transition between (I like that structure in LoL), but I'll give that time since it's only been out for two days.

Another thing that annoys me are the turrets. These things don't do much damage to the heroes (so they aren't as much of a threat as they should be) and they don't aggro against someone if they are attacking your hero. This makes it extremely hard to defend any turrets that you have as you aren't given any help by them and the opponent can go as deep into the turret range as they want without having any danger.

I do like the ability customization, but I honestly would rather have ability level ups. The only two things I like more than I like the equivalent of in League are that the jungle creatures come to help you whenever you defeat them instead of giving you buffs and the mounts are really useful to get around with quickly.

Maybe I just don't like it as much for a reason someone who is playing Smash for the first time from a non-Nintendo, traditional FG background doesn't like Smash. I don't know the franchises these characters come from all that well (meaning I have no attachment to the game before the moment I start playing), it's different from my picture of an ideal MOBA, and the design choices and game structure seem very foreign to me.

Its worth a try. I mean they made some weird and actually hard characters to play that are very unique which is cool for a MOBA. I started playing it a while back when they first started doing the alpha testing in like 2014 i think and its really improved upon its self. It's more of a good starting MOBA for people who have never had experience with the genre of game because its not nearly as hardcore as dota or LOL. But I will say that it is a lot more team oriented than most other MOBA's I've played.
8/8 I rate!

I enjoy playing HoTS over any other MOBA. It is just less crap to deal with, and considering I don't play MOBAs very hardcore and whatnot, it is just perfect for me. But yeah, right now, the community is pretty much toxic, but that is what happens when you get a bunch of new players. Every time a new wave went through in the Beta, you would get an influx of people who were just negative mainly because they didn't fully understand the game yet.

RTS' tend to have equally as long games but lack the toxic community infamous to MOBAs.

Probably because nobody gives a **** about RTS' anymore and everyone who is old enough to still play the genre are too old to get worked up over losing a game.

EDIT: Speaking of RTS, the fact that Heroes of the Storm and Heart of the Swarm have the same acronym really turns me around when I'm reading about either game.

We are getting a bunch of new stuff coming to Heroes of the Storm this summer! A new map, and 3 new characters from the Diablo franchise: the Monk, the Butcher, and King Leoric.

12 days later, we've received a pretty sizable chunk of new content, including the Butcher and the Battlefield of Eternity map.
So far, I've really liked what I've seen of the Butcher, being able to abuse positioning mistakes and making most of a team pay. As a hero in a MOBA, I don't think that the Butcher is the most useful hero, but as a hero in HOTS, I think that the Butcher could well be considered at least top tier.

Butcher has insane damage output, but he doesn't have an escape, and is quite vulnerable to CC.

Anyways, we are also getting a new hero next week, King Leoric, the Skeleton King.

Also, Fenix is confirmed as well as some new Starcraft mounts and such: http://us.battle.net/en/int?r=wow
I wasn't aware of this until pretty recently, but Overwatch characters have also been confirmed for HOTS some time after the release of Overwatch. I'd love to play as Reinhardt in HOTS, since I'm mostly a tank player anyways, and Mercy would make a good Io (from DOTA) play-alike.

Likely because each match is 45 minutes of their lives.
Except, you know, HotS matches are 20~25 minutes long at most. Anyways, nice to see there's a thread for the game here. It is my favorite game of the ~MOBA~ genre. It is fun, requires team work and good coordination and fortunately it skips the unnecessary complexity from Dota 2.

Just bought Johanna yesterday and I am having fun with her, she is almost unkillable. So now I have Brightwing, Valla, E.T.C., Li Li and Johanna, I am thinking of buying Zagara, Sgt. Hammer as well as Tyrael next, but I would like to try the Sgt. before spending 7k gold on her, if possible.

Vastly prefer this game over my League experience thus far. Everyone leveling up together and no items really creates a sense of balance to the point where a team can catch up with proper decision making and team fighting. Objectives play a large role in that, and on that point I enjoy the variety of maps. Plus laning is simpler without last hitting being the primary focus which just wasn't interesting for me personally.

Even though the cast is small compared to other MOBAs, they are pulled from games and thus their is a greater degree of hype and sentimentality to it, kind of like Smash (my only familiarity is from Diablo 2/3 and Hearthstone though). Additionally, we've already got interesting heroes like the Vikings who are three separate units and Abathur who hosts other players, minions, and even structures. Leoric, Tyrael, Uther, Diablo, and especially Murky are examples of characters that interactive with death differently. Soon we're even getting a ranged tank in Rexxar. Etc. Overall I'm pleased with the quality of our selection and we're just getting started from what they can choose from.

Thus far I have Nazeebo, Valla, Azmodan, Tyrael, Diablo, Murky, and Sylvanas. Right now Nazeebo just feels like the most solid in any given situation and where I'm most comfortable. Valla is definitely the most simple to do well with. Azmodan is probably my favorite concept wise, love making and buffing minions all over. Murky is just hilarious and that's the only reason I got him. Sylvanas is bae but she's tough for me to use. Tyrael and Diablo are my tanks, and soon I shall add Johanna with them.

I just wish this game was more popular, hopefully it can grow to be big.

^ There are also Diablo III's Monk and StarCraft's Medic coming soon, two new support character with quite unique mechanics

Anyways, I bought Sgt. Hammer yesterday and she is crazy fun to play. Siege mode literally melts structures and wipes minion waves in a blink.

As a long time Warcraft fan, the fact that Blizz kept the WC character's playstyle as close to their original WC3 counterparts is a godsend.

I feel like Blizz really payed close attention to their fans when putting the roster together for this game. The fact that they're willing to go with more obscure characters like Stitches (an NPC that would wander around and one shot lowbies in classic WoW), Murky (a limited edition pet also in WoW) or The Lost Vikings (protagonists of a very early Blizzard game) shows so real dedication.

I wish my desktop was up and running. I wanna get better with MURADIN BRONZEBEARD.

EDIT: I love the sheer amount of icons reused from WCIII in this game. Yes, it's lazy but it gets my nostalgia gears turning hard.

She's a tonne of fun. Wait for a teamfight to break out, ignore it and take two towers and a barracks.

Haven't got a support yet, thinking I might wait and get the SC Medic. That transport ability sounds fun.

I think Brightwing is a really fun support character, but sadly her healing properties were heavily nerfed with the last patch. Still fun nways, just not as impactful.

Yeah, Hammer is tons of fun, I have her at rank 10, with her Elite skin. Totally worth it. Sadly, she requires her team to play the protect the Hammer game if she ever wants to do any real damage, which is not something many people understand in solo queue.

That is true!

Anyways, I have been playing the free heroes of the week and only Leoric clicked with me. Kerrigan has an incredibly boring moveset, Rehgar has that cool wolf form but again, boring moveset and I am not sure what I am supposed to do with Gazlowe... but Leoric is really fun. I was planning to buy Sylvanas next, but I think I changed my mind.

I started playing yesterday. My cousin wanted to get me to like MOBAs. and recommended I started with this game.
It's pretty fun stuff what I've played so far, but I've only been playing against the AI, too scared to try online.

You can play co-op online against A.I. It's the mode I play when I am not feeling like dealing with the stress of playing PvP.

Don't really have a Co-op partner, just been trying out things on my own for now.

Well yeah, but playing co-op with someone I don't know tends to not end well.

Well alright then, but overall the HotS community is pretty chill. By the way, by co-op I mean a team of 5 people playing together, not... 2 people. :p
