Help with PSA Imports on Wii U

Hello everybody!

I'm new to Brawl hacking and was wondering what is the easiest way to read PSA edited files on the Wii U? I've spent the whole day reading various guides (most of which are for the Wii), and it all seems very complicated. I'm a bit confused since many of the guides are from several years ago, and some of the links to downloads are also dead. Is there an updated guide for the Wii U?

I'm not looking to do anything difficult. For the meantime, I simply want to test out a few PSA modified characters. I'm talking about simple edits to the character .pac files to modify properties like movement speed, damage, frame data, etc.

The guides mentioned to create a folder path on the SD card, so I want to make sure the one below is correct? Can I transfer only the edited character files for the Wii U to read?

private\wii\app\RSBE\pf\fighter\marth\FitMarth.pac

I know I'll need a 2GB or less SD card, but what is the best program to read the PSA files I've transferred over? If anyone can provide detailed step by step instructions, I would be incredibly grateful!

Thank you for the quick response.

Yes, I would like to play and test the changes I've made to the character files as if the game had been patched. Besides transferring the file path to the SD card, what codes and programs will I need to install to actually see these changes when I'm playing? I don't know if many of the previous programs mentioned in guides are compatible with the Wii U, and I just want to make sure before I accidentally cause a system error or the like.

Thanks again.

1. You need the File Patch Code. Google it, there's a different version for each region. Copy the code into here. Title ID is RSBE01 for US, RSBP01 for PAL, and RSBJ01 for Japan. Put the file you get (RSB*.gct) in the /codes/ folder on your SD card.

2. The gameconfig.txt file, in your SD Card root. Create a blank text file, name it gameconfig.txt, and put this in it:

Code:
RSB?01:
codeliststart = 80570000
codelistend = 80580000
poke(800042B8, 60000000)
pokeifequal(803E9930, 4BFECA1D, 803E9930, 60000000)
pokeifequal(803E99A8, 4BFECA1D, 803E99A8, 60000000)
pokeifequal(803E9D5C, 4BFECA1D, 803E9D5C, 60000000)
3. Gecko OS. Download, and copy the boot.elf file from /Gecko1931/Gecko1931/HBC/Gecko1931/ to the SD card root (if you don't have the Homebrew Channel), or copy the /Gecko1931/Gecko1931/HBC/Gecko1931/ folder to the /apps/ folder on the SD card (if you have the Homebrew Channel).

3.1. If you don't have the Homebrew Channel, you also need the Smash Stack exploit. Follow the instructions there for that. For the part where you have to move the existing "private" folder to "privateold", move your /privateold/wii/app/rsbe/pf/ folder back to /private/wii/app/rsbe/pf/.

4. You also need the files you want to use. Put those in their appropriate locations in /private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/.

Don't put the SD Card in the Wii U at any point before the Wii Menu loads.

Load Gecko OS via either the Homebrew Channel or stage builder. When Gecko OS loads, press "Launch game" and it will (re)load Brawl with your patches applied.

Thank you so much! I didn't know Gecko OS could be launched without Homebrew Channel.

I just want to clarify Step 3. I first rename the "private" folder in the SD card to "privateold" Then I copy the "private" folder found in the Smash Stack download to the card. I then move the renamed "privateold" folder into the new "private" folder. The edited character files go into the new "private" folder, correct?

All I need for Smash Stack to work is the boot.elf file from Gecko OS?

Really appreciate it. This has helped me a lot!

For step 3:

Go to /privateold/wii/app/RSBE/, and move the /pf/ folder from here to /private/wii/app/RSBE/. Edited character files then go in /private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/fighter/<fighter's internal name>/

Some internal names differ from the character's name in the game, e.g. Bowser's internal name is Koopa, so his files go in the /koopa/ folder, and are named FitKoopa__.pac.

For Smash Stack, you need Gecko OS' boot.elf in the SD card root, plus the /private/ folder from the download.

I seem to be having some trouble. I've followed all the steps but nothing happens when I go into the stage builder. It just shows an empty list of stages.

For Smash Stack, you should have this file:

/private/wii/app/RSBE/st/st_080805_0933.bin

Also, some people say that you shouldn't insert the SD card until you reach the Brawl title screen. You might want to try that as well.

I do remember that, the last time I tried this on my Wii U, it took a couple of tries for it to actually work. It did load eventually.

Thank you. I've gotten Gecko to load. However, the changes I made in the character .zip files are not showing up. It says no SD cheats or patch files detected.

EDIT: Fixed and got it working. Seems I copied and pasted some text that wasn't supposed to be in the code.

I am having a bit of trouble with the Samus and Zero Suit Samus files if anyone could help.

I have edited both .pac files for Samus and ZSS. I did not edit any textures, and all changes involve only the base stats and damage of moves. I am able to load both these .pac files successfully when I select the character.

However, there is a problem when either one gets the Final Smash and transforms. After the transformation, it seems the game loads the default .pac for either Samus or ZSS. Any of the changes I've made to the other does not show up. After getting another Smash Ball and transforming back, my changes are all there again.

e.g. Samus (hacked) transforms into default ZSS and back to Samus (hacked); ZSS (hacked) transforms into default Samus and back to ZSS (hacked)

Basically to see the edited .pac files, I have to load the character from the select screen. If they are loaded through a transformation, the default .pac file is loaded and not the edited one with my changes. This means I cannot play both hacked characters in one game.

Strangely, this does not affect Zelda or Sheik. When using Transform, I am able to load both .pac files with the changes I've made.

I have tried renaming the files so there is both a .pac and .pcs file in the fighter/samus and fighter/szerosuit folders., but this has not worked.
