I was wondering if anyone can help me with a problem im having.
im really not cocky at all and i do not thing im the **** but listen up plz. Im an extremely technical falco. almost as technical as anyone can get. when i get vids ull prolly be callin me the shiz wiz. lol. although. when people watch me play in tourneys and stuff there like woahhh hes so technical! but then i get 2 stocked!!!!! i play hardly any mind games and sometimes very predictable with my approach, techs, and sidesteps. i play pro players a lot and im always read like a book. they tell me i can be really good if i stop. but its harder than that. i have a good crew and were getting real good. im not improving. i feel like i can no longer progress because of this obstacle im facing. is all the tech skill no good? i really need help and i would like for you to help me out. can you give me some suggestions about what i should do?

the thing about mindgames is not predicting ur opponent, but actually changing ur style to counter his.(if he plays offensive, u polay defensive, wait for a hit, then hit him). you gotta remember falco has his SHB and can use it a lot. keep using it, and if the opponent is trying to attavck you, wait for him, then attack him back, when he leasts expects it. thats the beginning of mindgames

Let's take a look at those.

If you're shielding, will the opponent go in for a grab? As Falco, you have plenty of ways to counter a grab if you know it's coming. That's a simple mindgame right there, if your opponent always runs in to grab when you shield.

Don't be predictable. Do stuff that your opponent(s) doesn't expect.
Mindgames = Boobytrap = Trickery = Focus = Prediction = Solution

Quoted for truth, as some of these forum-goers like to say.

why do so many people have this same problem.
true, you need some technical talent to play as falco, but without acquiring mindgames, you wont be able to show your technical talents.

Most amateurs are read like a book, cept some noobish random ones. one of my friends had this problem

slow down your play, sometimes just spam the shl. dont roll frequently.rolling behind someone is more threatening then rolling away. do some fake outs..

tell us how your read like a book.
recovery?
general?
defensive?
offensive?
pattern?

the reason a lot of people have this problem is because playing a falco with nothing but tech skill can get you very far against beginner to intermediate players. Once you start playing people at a higher level though your tech becomes predictable and defeatable.

One main problem I see many falcos with good tech skill do (I was guilty of it myself and I think we've all gone through it at some point when we start out) is doing the same shl approach patter over and over and OVER. Its like this: SHL SHL shffled aerial of some sort, hope for a shine combo rinse and repeat. Do you do this? So many people focus on "omg I need teh midgamez lolz" that they forget that they just simply aren't varying up their style enough and become an easy read. That is not midgames, that as far as I am concerned part of technical skill. I think your first problem is derived from this. Maybe you tech the same way every time you fall, maybe your attack patter in too similar, do you DD enough, how is your platform movement, do you always go for a sweetspot, when recovering do you always EHDL or do you over b sometimes? These are ALL questions you should ask yourself.

As far as I am concerned being "very technical" just means that you don't need to think about tech skill when the time comes to pull something off, that you feel like you are one with your characters movements. So yes that is good that you've gotten to that level of proficiency. Being super fast however does not make you "extremely technical" it just means your using all that tech skill to play super offensively all the time... which doesn't work. I laugh every time people say "hay but bamsoldiar and shiz wiz are technical and tech is bettar than mindgames lolz?!", do you think that bombsoldier and shiz don't have mindgames just because they move so fast... untrue. Even shiz has recently said he might start slowing down a little bit and abusing falco's unique "gayness" and its been working out for him because he has more time to think.

Thats what you need, time to think. Now how do you improve? A few things might help (at least these helped me). Ask the people that kick your *** EXACTLY what patterns they noticed, what they could exploit, what they saw you doing too much of etc. etc.... Try and record your matches and watch yourself and notice what mistakes you are doing, even write them down so you remember not to do them next time. Also even though videos of other players can only give you limited information, its good to notice how they move, how they vary their attack patter, try and see if you can notice their mindgames etc... paying close attention to how pros play is a good way to learn some tricks of your own. I hoped this helped, these are some of the things I did to help myself.

Xelad1, is so true.

Mindgames<Tech skill.

But tech skill is great to have accompanied by Mindgames.

Edit: BTW guys, just went to a tournament like 4 days ago. Check out the vids, I was trying to play smarter.

Nurok, that was the worst evvvvvverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

What's your platform game like? Do you make good use of your waveland? Do you grab often enough to keep them from sheilding all of your crap? Can you land smashes when you need to? All important questions and worth looking into.

Mixing things up is the most important thing; you cant teach mind games. Listen to xelad1 he is correct about this. Such as a good approach (if you always approach with SHL) is to so a SHL approach but right before you get in melee rang it so wavedash backwards and shoot another laser, but you can't do this everytime and become predicatable. Just whatever you do you have to think of ways to mix it up. Try and think of more and more ways to approach if thats your biggest problem (it was mine i SHL'ed approached everytime and i was read like a book) watch Shiz because he mixes up well or PC chris. Also FastLikeTree is a good person to watch.
