Help with Katana in Ness hand

I'm more of a PSA guy, so I'm not good at these vertex things. I was wondering if it was possible for this Ness's Katana http://www.mediafire.com/?1uzjdyz0jny in the hands of a castle crasher http://www.box.net/shared/nh8tb68vk5 . Could some kind Vertex pro walk me how to do this?

I'm working on it though i'm not the best. First I've tried just replacing the certain polygons ect in brawlbox but that didn't work, so now i'll try some vertex editing which will hopefully work, or else you need to find someone else.
