So I got homebrew to work on my Wii, but I can't seem to get Gecko OS down.

I have Apps > Gecko191 > Docs > gameconfig example/gameconfig file format/gpf file format/new code types doc tech
Apps > Gecko191 > Gecko191 > DOL > main.dol/Readme
Apps > Gecko191 > Gecko191 > HBC > Gecko191 > boot.elf/boot (2).elf/icon/meta

Any help would be great..

LOL sorry. I don't come to this part of the forums often lol.

What's wrong is that I don't see Gecko when I launch Homebrew.

The apps folder should be on the root of the sd card. Inside the apps folder should be the gecko folder and inside that the boot.dol file.

Apps>gecko>boot.dol

If the dol file that you have doesn't work rename the boot.elf file you have to boot.dol

yeah you have Gecko191/Gecko191, cut the inner Gecko191 folder and paste it inside of apps/. likely happened when you unRAR'd the archive; for some reason people like putting a folder inside of a .rar file even though it's the only thing there. <_<

Mainly because it's easier to archive it.

Thanks for the help guys, but I still can't get it.

Right now this is what it looks like:

Apps > Gecko191 > DOL AND HBC
DOL > Boot.dol (which i renamed from main.dol) and a Readme
HBC > Gecko 191 > boot.elf, boot (2).elf, icon, and meta

what is this gameconfig t hing?

i also tried to change the boot.elf file to boot.dol, nothing happened

Seeing as your Wii System Menu is 4.2, you have to download Gecko OS version 1.9.3.1. The older versions will NOT work, because they use an IOS that's stubbed in the 4.2 update.

I'm having the same problem. When I start homebrew, only codemanager shows up. The gecko thing doesn't.

My file list is:
1-apps
...2-cheat manager
......*boot.dol
......*icon
......*meta
......*readme
...2-Gecko1931
......3-DOL
.........*main.dol
.........*Readme
......3-HBC
.........4-Gecko1931
............*boot.elf
............*icon
............*meta
.........*Readme

*Not really a hacker, just wanted some textures so excuse me for not knowing much outside of what was in that "Texture and vertex hack database how-to" thread.

As simple as 1-2-3...

In order to make an application appear in the Homebrew Channel, the following steps must be taken:

  1. Make a folder on the root of your SD card called "apps".
(In other words, it'll be the 1st thing you'll see when looking at your SD Card.)
  2. In the folder "apps", create a folder for the application.
(The name doesn't matter, as long as you know what it is.)
  3. Copy the files for the application into its folder.
(Example - X:/apps/gecko/[program files here] - "X" being your SD Card.)
  4. Find the executable file (either '.elf' or '.dol') and rename it to "boot.elf"
(or "boot.dol" if it was a '.dol' file) if it is not already named that.
(If the app comes with "icon.png" and "meta.xml" files, copy them into that folder too.)

When you're done, it should look something like this:

  • Your SD Card
    • apps
      • Cheat Manager
        • boot.elf
        • icon.png (optional)
        • meta.xml (optional)
      • Gecko
        • boot.elf
        • icon.png (optional)
        • meta.xml (optional)
      • (and so on...)

I hope that helped the 2 of you... just follow the above format and you should be fine. ;)

Thank you so much King Luigi!

What worked for me was deleting the folders they were in and just putting them into the Gecko folder.
