Hey, I just started playing falco. I was wondering what are some grab combos I should be familiar with and when they do/don't work. I tried doing the dthrow to dsmash, but it doesn't seem to work like 90% of the time. Thanks for the help.

Uthrow is your best option a lot of the time. If you hit them with the laser you can hit them with a free bair/nair/whatever.

D-throw to d-smash only works sometimes on Fox because d-throw is a pseudo chain grab on him. The Fox can only shine out of it IIRC if they don't buffer something, and a lot of the time it's too fast to buffer the first one.

U-throw leads to pretty much any aerial you want. U-throw to U-air like Fox can kill Puff pretty easily from what I saw of PP using it. B-throw can lead to another grab again on a FFer, if they can't react fast enough, or an f-tilt off the ledge against a FFer.

U-throw also leads to shine to whatever against FFers if they DI the throw wrong..

I love to upthrow->bair on Fastfallers.
I love to upthrow->dair on Peach and Jiggs.
I also just love fthrow off the stage into catching their impulsive jump if they're a n00b :awesome:

How is dthrow even remotely like a chain grab on Fox? I thought it just sets up a tech chase. Speaking of dthrow, why is uthrow considered a better option than dthrow?

at lower percents, dthrow does not knock down fox. because he remains standing, you can technically grab him again. it's a pseudo chaingrab however because i'm pretty sure fox can shine/buffer roll out of it.

here's an example:

uthrow is considered better because it leads to guaranteed followups, rather than relying on your opponent to screw up DI or escape options

Fairly certain Dthrow -> shine is a thing on fox at 10% or under from the debug mode testing done. Anything above that and you face missing attacks due to DI or simply being countered attack by crouch canceling.

Dthrow is bad against anyone else because opponents have literally 6 options out of it. They can either tech in place, tech roll away (sheiks tech roll away is a nightmare to follow-up on), and DI neutral no tech, or DI to the sides no tech. And, dthrow is horrible on platforms because it actually gives people the ability to escape and retaliate against you. They can either DI away to the nearest part of the platform ledge, and ledge cancel due to the sliding motion (get faired by marth). If they slide straight down like when you dthrow at a ledge, they can actually meteor cancel the dthrow.

However, Dthrow is decent on very large platforms such as dreamland. People cannot slide off if you center dthrow correctly.

Effectively, Falco cannot cover all options and it pretty much puts you back to neutral setting. Uthrow is quick and you can rely upon messed up DI to get a guaranteed follow-up or at the very least its puts them into a worse spot than neutral.

Wow, I can't believe I never noticed that. Thanks!

I understand that Falco is slow, but does the frame data say it's impossible to cover all the options or just humanly impossible?
