Help with Copious Grabs

Hello, friends. I've been having a problem. I've recently been playing a lot of matches with one individual who edge-guards using Captain Falcon's dash grab. The situation is as such: Roy vs Captain Falcon, we've both reached 80-90%. He manages to get me off stage. I recover high and he rolls any aerials I throw out and then grabs me and throws me off stage. I recover to ledge. If i do a straight get up recovery, he runs in and grabs before i can even manage my neutral jab. If I do the get up roll, he turns around and grabs me in my recovery frames, throwing me off the ledge. If I do a get-up attack, he rolls, grabs, and throws me off the ledge. As long as I manage to keep in the neutral, the fight is generally manageable, but I can't seem to counter his "grab-guarding" technique. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've never faced this strategy before.
P.S. I sure hope I posted this in the right place! This is my first time using any sort of forum and I don't know what I'm doing yet.

Welcome to Smashboards!
I think this would be better off in the Captain Falcon forum, maybe.

But anyway, I don't know too much about Roy, but....
- if you want to just "get up" from the ledge, that would be because he's not exactly on the ledge but quite a small distance from it. If he was standing right on the ledge and you just got up, well you set yourself up in that scenario. If he was at least a small distance away, however, DTilt might work; I'm pretty sure it starts up pretty fast (someone, quick, a Roy main, correct me asap before I even make this post!!!)
- if he's right on the ledge, you can hop up from the ledge and Fair. If you're anticipating him shielding then grabbing you upon hit, hop up anyway as if you are going for an aerial but go for a grab yourself (empty hop into grab, so to speak)
- i would get up attack if he's one of those captain falcon players who go trigger happy with the Up Tilt spike attempts. aka, a not so good captain falcon. (unless you're considered off stage during the vulnerable frames of the get up attack, then never mind)

I reread your post and noticed you didn't mention jumping from ledge, or dropping from ledge occasionally, so you want to throw those into your game if normal get-ups or rolls aren't doing it for you.

The "grab guarding" thing is annoying the first few times around. the idea is to "empty jump" towards them and grab, at least once in a while. They won't be relying on you making unsafe attacks on their shield for much longer, I think

(whoops, double posted by accident; I keep clicking "reply" without noticing it says "reply" instead of "edit"

Try to show more patience when at the ledge. Instead of going straight for an immediate option, just hang for a bit and bait a reaction from him.

You could also try jumping from ledge

One thing you could try doing is dropping from the ledge, then jumping up into an U-Air. If he's right next to the ledge you'll knock him away, allowing you to Up-B back onto the ledge and get up safer. Also, when you use the jump getup you can try to bait him into missing a grab with your double jump and then punish with a FF Fair / Bair.

But as the others have said, the important bit is to mix it up.

Thank you for the resplies! Ryuki, you are correct about Roy's dtilt being fast but he waits outside my range. I have tried jumping over and doing a bair to catch him and trying to land empty and grab him but he runs up and grabs me during the landing animation. He says he "reacts to what choice made" when he does this method of his. He's one of the most patient people I know, so he just waits for me to make myself vulnerable. I really appreciate the advice, though! Next time, I'll have to see if my spacing was the problem with my approaches.

If your opponent is grab-happy you should try incorporating more spot-dodging into your play style for that match. Overall though as a swordsman like :4feroy:you wanna play the spacing/footsie game rather than making the first move or committing since your approach options are fairly limited.

As a player who secondaries Roy the match-up can be pretty rough so don't take it too hard on yourself. It's definitively winnable though if you play your cards right though.

I definitely could use some better practice with spot dodged. Thank you for the advice!
