Help with Bad Habits

Noticed when I vs my friends, I constantly get trumped with aerials. Am I just timing this wrong? Also trying to do dairs when falling but keep either doing it early and getting hit with an usmash, or doing it too late and the hit box doesn't come out and I suffer landing lag. Is there anything i can do to train this out of me?

Also, have a tendency to dash attack a lot. Not sure if its just bots who can just perfect shield everything, but i always get grabbed or smashed after.

I have more, just can't think of them atm, but if anyone else had bad habits, how did you overcome them?

Minor error, it's spelled "habits" not "habbits". :p

Approaching: As a :4falcon: main, I use to continually dash attack against my opponents. This led me to become more predictable in my approaches and had cost me a lot of victories. Over time, I lurked around the Falcon thread and started changing my options with Bairs, dash grabs, Nairs, etc. I learned to change up my approaches in order to keep my opponents guessing.

With regards to you're bad habit, try using air dodges. While you can still be hit after the air dodge frames, it still allows you to evade aerials. Shielding and side-stepping works too if your opponent uses an aerial near the ground.

Trumped by Aerials? as in you're getting hit by them? Or you're getting punished for using them? Either way, you do have to do something about that.
If you're getting hit by them, just block as soon as you see them in the air, unless your shield is low. When they hit you with an aerial, depending on the aerial they use, they'll get landing lag. Use that opportunity to grab. If the landing lag is severe, such as a sonic who slid on the ground from a missed homing attack, try to punish with a smash or one of those incredibly strong tilts like Diddy's utilt.
If you keep messing up aerials, try to empty hop and mix it up. Don't use an aerial on shield unless you're playing a ridiculous character like Luigi or Villager that can fit two aerials into one short hop. But don't do that too often either, because you'll get predicted.
There's nothing wrong with dash attacking often, just try to limit when you do it. Go for a dash attack when an opponent is landing, rather when they're on the ground. If you make the mistake of doing it on the ground and getting blocked, instantly start button mashing, because you're probably going to get grabbed. The best way to fix your habits is to accept them first, find a way to deal with what happens after, then change them later.
I myself, as a Sonic main, actually have a bad habit of approaching with nair. while it works alot, the landing lag gets me grabbed very often when it's blocked. Gotta figure out what to do about that.

---- Oh, you're a mac main? I don't know much about mac, but I'm pretty sure his dash attack is quite the asset.
well here's the thing. Stop dashing. Play patiently. Guard and tilt, guard and tilt. occasionally smash. Only dash when you see them trying to land, Little Mac has enough speed to change it up like that.

Avoid using aerials with Mac, unless you're 101% sure that those will hit. Air Dodge, Counter or simply Fast Falling are good options for landing, and lots of Mac's players use Dash Attack, making you predictable. Use Foxtrotting more often to have more approach options.

@ AJDOH AJDOH @ Purin a.k.a. José Purin a.k.a. José Hey thanks for the tips! :D It really helps to know to dash attack when they try to land. Also, yes I do main Mac, but been playing Pikachu and Fox lately and their aerials come out faster so they're somewhat easier to land.

As a 3DS user (because i don't have a wiiU), is there a way to avoid mis-inputs such as smashing when wanting to tilt? Not FF when doing dairs?

Mac just doesn't play well in the air, everyone knows that. You want to position yourself in the center of the stage at all times. Unless you're edge gaurding with Down Smashes, you shouldn't need to move away from center. His dash attack is a great burst attack (A move that comes out super fast, it's good for punishing laggy moves, like Mac Or Sonic's dash attacks). So be patient, stay center stage, use his dash attack to punish any laggy moves. If someone has a bad habit of approaching with a dash attack or a nair or something, remember a lot of his moves have super armour, don't be afraid to throw them out while mixing it up with counters. Mac can quickly put out damage and has no problem killing.

As for inputs, it comes down to practice. Just go into training and try to get used to slowly moving the pad in the direction you need. Same thing for FF and Dair, input the Dair like you're doing a Dtilt. You're gonna have mis-inputs, but only you can condition yourself to not push the stick too fast. Practice makes perfect.
