Help Vs. Luigi

Hello. I need help vs. Luigi. I play him as one of my secondarys, but in still cant beat him with yoshi. His wavedash is increadibly long and annoying, and he has evil fairs, bairs, nairs and uairs, all which come out really fast. I know some things from being a luigi player, like taking advantage of his completely vertical and horizontal recovery, but his aeriel game decimates my own. All i have over him in the air is my DJC, but his wavedash manueverability allows him to start up a combo on me before i can djc. His downsmash killz too. Please help me out! :luigi: vs :yoshi:

Don't go in the air, and beat him on the ground. He's all slidy an' shiz on the ground so he normally has difficulty controlling exactly where he's going in the heat of battle. If he insists on air approaches, smashes work well.

Also, play defensively, there's not really any good approach to Luigi.

The thing is, even though he cant control exactly where he goes, luigis are very unpredictable on ground to to their massive wavedash. His wavedash to downsmash killz, and if i start CCIng, he goes aeriel and clobbers me. I personally think Luigi is a very bad matchup for teh egg throwing dino. :yoshi:

:yoshi: Take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt.

Maybe it's just me, but I think part of what makes Luigi so predictable on the ground is exactly that--his wavedash. All his approaches involve wavedash up. Wavedash downsmash, wavedash forward tilt, wavedash short hop forward/down/neutral air, wavedash jab. Once you can tell the player's approach style (distance, timing, etc.) for each of these approaches, you'll be able to spot and counter them.

For instance, to beat wavedash jab (which usually leads to grab to down throw), you want to spot it first. Once you know it's coming toss and egg that lands just barely in front of you and crouch. You'll CC the first jab, Luigi will get hit. Now, you can either run away to escape the incoming neutral air or up tilt or short hop neutral air (depending on what damage he's suffered thus far).

Just don't fall for wavedash back-wavedash up approaches. They're the oldest trick in the book, honestly, and it just takes some patience and a keen eye to spot what they're gonna do.

Yeah, Luigi is pretty much forced to WD up to you if he wants to approach. Or down-b, which is easily CC'ed. Just figure out what he wants to do to you, and whatever you do, DO NOT try and attack him straight off the bat with a laggy attack when he approaches you. Luigis like to wavedash back and forth a lot so make sure you close up any laggy openings an ill-timed dsmash or fsmash may leave you with.

Yoshi's Roll > Luigi Aerials. No joke, if Luigi is trying to double aerial you just roll through him, you get a little time to set up for a usmash.

the best way to handle luigi is just to juggle him as best you can with Usmashes and eggs, to keep him off the ground where is WD is all dangeresque and stuff. Your fsmash can be useful too. Just think priority and have good spacing. It's still a helluva match.

Luigis are always tricky. Shiri's point is the best approach. It's more of a waiting game when it comes to Luigi. Dont forget that Yoshi has some good disjointed hits too. Yoshi's utilt keeps most of his body out of harm's way, and hits a little ahead of his body (barely noticable), so that's a possibility. My motto against most characters is "They're only good in the air if they want to be there." Luigi is extremely floaty in the air, but not very manuverable. I try to punish his airtime with eggs, predicting his approaches.

Ground Luigi, Shiri's got this down. Also, you can try and Egg Lay as he approaches. Due to his lack of understanding to gravity, he floats pretty well up from Egg Lay. Use this to your advantage. Keeping your feet on the ground against this guy is a main objective for you.

The sig is nice, I like it! =) I want to make a signature like that...
