Hey! So I'm really new to smash, started about a week ago. I got most of the techs down like wavedashing, l cancelling etc. So I started to practice against my roommate who mains Samus. All's he does is spam down b, missiles, crouch cancelling and down smash. I beat him but I can never seem to win handedly. Any tips??

Assuming you're playing sheik, ftilt can destroy missiles along with most moves. Ftilt is faster, however, making it the best option. Try and bait out a dsmash here and there by full hopping in like you're going to fast fall aerial him, then double jump. If all goes well, he'll dsmash and you can fair>grab. If he starts catching on try tomahawk grabs, meaning you short hop in, fast fall, grab. CC is easy to beat, just run in and grab. However, be wary of a preemptive dsmash. If he starts putting out dsmash before you attack him, dash dance back and bait out a dsmash that way. Downb should be easy enough to avoid, just notice where he does it and attack after he does it. Depending on when/where he does it, it should be a free punish for you.

Depends on what character you play. Samus' bombs are not really a threat in neutral. A lot of hitboxes go through it, like Marth's forward smash. Crouch cancelling can be beaten by spacing your aerials so that the strong hit connects; then fast fall and shield. Missiles can be attacked with jabs, tilts, dash attacks. And you can shield them, jump over them, spotdodge them, roll past them.

Focus on learning the counters to all of your friend's options, then play in such a way that his gameplan has the least chance of working.
