Help Please

I've been playing Smash since 2011 and bought Sm4sh for 3DS the first day it came out. I'm good against my friends but I'm not very good at competitive play. I've looked up many videos on how to play competitive Smash and I know all the tactics and such but I fail when I play online. My main is Pit. Can anybody help me to be competitive and stand a chance in For Glory mode?

First, I'll recommend you to post here: http://smashboards.com/threads/game-play-advice-and-general-discussion.382927/ in favor (instead) of making a new thread.
Second, don't feel bad, it's wifi, most tactics won't work there. Try to get better reads and a better comprehension of your character, save replays and watch them looking for patterns of yours and your opponent's, and you'll see how offline you'll do better.
