The smash community that I'm in is moving from PM to Melee. Being a Link main in PM, I naturally attempted to work with him first, but the sour spots he has are ridiculous. For whatever reason, I've found myself playing Samus.

I'm a little heavy on her fully charged cannon and I'm not sure whether that's a good strat or not.
I'm working on edge guarding with her missiles, again, not sure on how good of an idea that is.

Any tips are welcome, as I really don't have any real experience with Melee, minus a small local I was dragged into.

Much appreciated!

For your specific questions:

Getting a charged shot is usually good. Usually people do it when: (1) the opponent just died, or (2) if the opponent is a floaty recovering from far away.

Missile edgeguards are good vs people who are recovering high from relatively far away, but if they're closer to the ledge or if you don't have time to missile them, you should usually use utilt / (angled) ftilt / (angled) fsmash (or dsmash if you want to cover a low sweetspot attempt but can't utilt in time.) If they have a slow recovery or if they've burned their doublejump, you can also try to nair / bair them.

It's too hard to answer such a general request. I'd say... read the forums.

work on bomb recovery...when you are hit into the air and coming back to the stage, press down B to lay a bomb midair, then immediately after that, lay another one without moving horizontally. You will fall slower and the first bomb you laid will explode and pop you up and then you can move horizontally back to the stage. You can do this several times in succession which gives Samus a ridiculous recovery.

Also, you can use Samus' grapple to get back onto the stage. It does not work like it does in brawl where it sweetspots the ledge automatically. Instead, you can use her grapple to latch onto any solid point of the stage.

This language is very misleading. You can move around while bomb jumping, and it's actually essential to do so in some situations. You only need to return to the hitbox of your bomb in order to bomb jump.
The grapple also only latches on to walls specifically: there are parts of certain stages that look solid, but are not classified as walls and therefore cannot be grappled to.

As for general advice: Work on movement a whole bunch. I've been watching a bunch of spaceballs and ycz and their movement is really inspiring. Wavedashes and smashturns are huge considering the nuances in Samus's attacks. Watch some high-level Samus videos and watch carefully on what defines their gameplay and integrate that into where you want your own Samus to go.
