Help - my internet provider is blocking Nintendo Network?

So the internet provider (Optix) that my current apartment residence uses claims on their website that "Nintendo Wii's" are not supported because they are "slow." Obviously a Wii U is not a Wii, but I simply cannot connect to Nintendo Network anymore. I am going to call them and ask them about this, because I am not really buying that a Wii U is going to eat that much bandwidth to slow down the network. At least not as much as students streaming Netflix would. But before I call them, I'd like to be prepared... I'm wondering if there's any way I can show or point Optix to some bandwidth usage data about how a Wii U playing Smash online is not going to eat as much bandwidth as people streaming Netflix/Hulu/etc. would. I don't really know how to do this, but figured I'd ask you guys because you're probably more knowledgeable about this kind of stuff than I am! Thanks.

Here's a paste from the FAQ page on their website:

What computer devices are NOT supported on the Optix Media Internet network?

Nintendo Wii’s: These gaming consoles cause many issues. Mainly they are SUPER slow on the network and thus slow down ALL other devices connected to the network.

If providers out there like this truly exist (and I played Wii games online just fine when I lived in the middle of nowhere), then you might want to give your provider a heads up about the upcoming Y2K problem. Then again, their Commodore 64s and Atari 800s might be just fine since they have no concept of what year it is, just like the provider itself.

In other words, stick with a 21st century Internet provider. You'll save yourself plenty of headaches trying to explain to this provider what YouTube is, let alone Netflix....
