TL:DR
I've been working hard to get good at melee but I want a mentor to help me increase my skills.

The Whole Story:
Hey guys, last year in November I rediscovered Melee and began watching all of the advanced tech videos and tutorials and a ton of tournament matches online. I originally played Link as a kid but quickly realized he was not a character I could reasonably play at tournament level, so I switched to Doc, and then Falco, who I currently main. Since then I've been practicing a lot with my friends and on my own to improve to the point where I could compete, and do at least moderately well(maybe just not get bodied) in a tournament. A few of my friends and I decided to sign up for the quickly approaching CEO 2015 tournament to see how good we actually were compared to the smash community. I've been improving pretty steadily on my own but if an experienced Falco player would be willing to help me out I think I would improve much more quickly than I have been. I have a computer that can run smash at 60fps, so netplay is an option. I also have screen recording software and one of my friends has a capture card that we can use for our matches.

I'm not sure if this is where this thread belongs, but if not I can move it. Also I can change the title if need be, I just thought it would catch some people's attention.

The best mentor you can have is yourself. You have to be humble and accept that you're bad. Be motivated to practice and master your tech skill everyday. Play your friends and practice the tech skill you learn. Use netplay to play against different people and learn different match-ups. Learn from your mistakes. The best advice that I can give is to watch videos of yourself. It's an entirely different perspective of actually playing and noticing your mistakes during game compared to watching videos of your mistakes.

Yeah, I know I'm pretty bad, I always thought I was amazing back before I discovered smash videos on youtube and I was the best of all of my friends. Now all I have to do is go and watch any competitive player's match to realize how far I still have to go. I definitely need to work on tech skill more, after working on it hard for a week I was able to almost beat one of my friends I used to play even with as falco, using kirby, so I know it makes a huge difference. That will probably be my main focus over the course of the next few weeks. I'll have to ask my friend with the capture card to bring it to our next smash day, and maybe someone on here would be able to point out some things I don't notice myself if I post a link? I know a lot of work needs to be done on my end but I feel as though if I could get some guidance from someone who is much better than I am, then I could take my game to the next level faster than I can alone. The end of June is going to come fast, and my goal is to win at least one game, and hopefully a set at CEO, but even that may be unlikely.

Unfortunately I live in far northern Wisconsin, almost UP Michigan. As far as I know, there aren't any good smashers anywhere within at least two hours of where I live outside of my group of friends that I play smash with. Maybe I'm wrong and someone on here will see this that's from around the same area as me that's much better than I am, but I kind of doubt it. Nothing goes on up here haha.
