Hi, my name is Shadow Light Master, and I will be fighting a Ness/Wario user named _Clinton tomorrow. I was practicing a lot versus some of my other GameFAQs friends to get used to things such as their air game (Wario's beastly, I had to react a lot and stay on the ground T_T) but I'm very worried about Ness, since he's his main.

Here's the deal. How do I deal with Ness' projectile game? How do I approach him? How do I take him in the air? My friend said that for his projectiles, I should spam back, and when he goes for the PSI Magnet, to running D-Smash him. He said for the air game for me to pull of QAC'd Nairs. But I wanted Smashboard's opinion because I need quality advice. This is an important match for me.

It really helps to run at him and power shield his PK fire. If he does hit it, try SDIing up so you don't get grabbed and d-throw, which is what most ness's do. His PK thunder when you are off the level you just need to airdodge at the right time. Also, when Ness is at high %s, high enough so that an up-smash can kill, you can T-jolt to bait him to absorb it, and then you can run at him and u-smash him, since it doesn't hurt like lucas's.

In the air, be aware of where he is, and try to juggle him. His dair has start up lag so he shouldn't be able to knock you out of it. If you are behind him, watch for the bair, since it has some startup lag, but not enough so that you will still get hit sometimes.

Also, to mess up ness's recovery, once he has hit himself with the PK thunder, shoot a thunder jolt at him. If he is hit mid flight, it will SIGNIFICANTLY shorten the distance. Also, if you are gutsy, you can try to make the PK thunder hit you, and since it doesn't go through like lucas's, he will just plummet to his death.

On the ground, watch for his D and U-smashes. They hit you while they are charging, so don't think you have a free hit. Go outside the range a little and then wait for the attack to begin and go in there and nair him. Ness's dash attack and fair can be rather irritating because they are multi-hit attacks, but they aren't that strong so don't worry about them killing you. His F-smash has pretty long start up lag, so you can shield it or jump over it.

That's about it for me. Good luck tomorrow.

If you're going to use thunder, wait until around halfway through the match, then hit him with it. If you wait that long you have a better chance of catching him off guard, and him not reacting well enough to absorb it. Needless to say don't spam.

one kool thing that i do when i play ness is when i edgeguard him. instead of hitting him with tjolt, i just run into his upb and he falls to his death. this doesnt work with lucas though.

But if you get hit with ness's up-b after it hits him because you messed up...you get hurt a lot...

Ok first try to do as much damage as possible to your foe. Then once they have a lot of damage on them use a finishing move. I suggest you try to hit them with a strong move when they have high damage. You know this by when the percentile raises and the color darkens. If you see something next to their name on the bottom of the screen that says 100% damage or more. Then it is time for a finishing move. In order to win you will have to kill the other opponent more times then they kill you. However some guides for fighting Ness particularly is that you need to hit him a lot and not get hit a lot in order to have a successful battle. The number of dots next to the persons name and percentile damage shows how many lives they have left in a stock game. Each time you successfully knock them off the side and have them "fall" they will lose one of their lives. However don't worry, even if you are unsuccessful in your battle, the character you used is not really dead, you can still use him later. Don't be alarmed he's not gone forever. I know I tend to be an expert, but I was in the same position as you a long time ago. Do not worry, just do your best, and that's all anyone can ask. Your skills as far as a player will come. Your welcome. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Yeah for newcomers it's best to keep around at all times. I suggest printing it out so you can have it with you whenever gaming as a reminder.
