Constructive criticism and praise only please ;) Oh and the quality is actually decent in these vids, so you should be able to view this stuff just fine.

For a year now I've watched this particular forum, helping advise other Fox players. Now you get to see mine. These videos were recorded at a recent tournament (recent as in last weekend) and I need some serious help. In the following videos you are going to witness me at near my best (and worst lol).

My only suggestions are to speed up a bit, utilize platform movement more (try some wavelanding, etc...), strengthen your edgeguarding, and i hardly saw you shine at all.

I only watched a few matches though.

A few things I noticed immediately. You are continuously double jumping to bair/drill. It is probably over 70% of your attacks. You need to start utilizing Fox's great DD grab game, SH Nairs, etc etc. He has a lot more options than you're using. Anyone decent is going to just start wavedashing back as you do your aerials, and punish you for it.

In the two matches I watched, I never saw you up throw up air. You need to start doing that. It doesn't work on Samus after low percents, but do it at low percents. You're almost guaranteed to get at least one hit off. Against Jiggs, it should be a bread and butter finisher. EDIT: I did see you use it occasionally, but not nearly enough. Until you start to understand the better situations to use his other throws, you should focus on throwing upwards and going from there.

Can you waveshine? If so, you have to start using it. There were many situations where you would hit with a shine on Samus and fail to waveshine ==> grab or up smash. EDIT: I watched a couple more matches, and yes, you can. It just seems like you can't do it under fire.

So really it comes down to two things:

1) Stop using so many double jump aerials.
2) Utilize Fox's grab game.

Ok, i watched a few - and you've got a good mindset and utilize a lot of the movement techniques. But there's always room for a few more, try circle jumping - after a while your movement becomes a bit predicitable. Mix it up with JC'd shines in the air, that extra frame can just help make your opponent stay on their toes, and create necissary distance.

Also, when you're in sheild, i sense that you kinda get nervous and dont use all your options at your disposal. Especially in the first game. Fox has an awesome set of things he can do out of sheild. SH drill shine combo out of sheild i was very suprised not to see - try and get it into your game maybe? :) Along with upsmash out of sheild, SHbair uair etc. They're all great. Also a few newbie combos - dash attack > utilt > uair etc are always good to stick in ^^

And im pretty sure there were very few grabs... possibly not even one in the first game? lol Which against samus i feel is really important. The combos could use extending which needs grabs anyway really.
For example using everything i've just said: (Out of sheild) SHDair > Shine dash > JC grab > Dthrow > Tech chase (which you seemed ok at ^^) > dash attack > utilt > Uair... And your set for the jugglez :)

Hope this helps ^^

Alright sweetness thanks for all of the advice. To put a general statement, I play a very technical Fox, but it isn't noticable in these vids for specific reasons.

Reason(John) 1: That Samus is X2X, a top Samus player in the Atlantic South (and he happens to be my best friend, so playing him all the time lets me know how I need to play him, and slow and steady does it against him) However I will certainly try to add in more grabs and such.

Reason(John) 2: The Jiggs/Peach match-up didn't matter at all, we were both ******* around because we both had made brackets rofl. But his Jiggs did **** my last two stocks, I felt bad >.>

I can perform most of Fox's techs, things like waveshine combos come naturally, I just have (as I think one of you stated) trouble getting into it under pressure.

What would you guys reccomend as a Samus counter pick stage? My buddy always bans FD because he knows I will rock him there, but there are just not any other really good stages (Yes I know about green greens and yoshi's, but he plays those extremely well which is why I avoided it and went for a more neutral stage like Pokemon)

Avoid Stadium at all costs, a technical samus can spam the hell out of that stage, it is often a counterpick for samus, not against. I'm not exactly sure what to pick against samus (i've never really played a good one before), You could try FoD/ rainbow cruise (small stages w/ easy vertical kills)

Watching the first video right now against X2X.

Some thing that stand out for me. You need to work on your pressure game. One thing that is useful is dairing or nairing into a shine then waveshine out twoards samus and go from there. I usually like to dash into a sshffled nairshine after that..While you cannot waveshine samus you can use it to move her to where you want her and keep the pressure on. X2X had control for almost that entire match. I think if you learn how to reduce samus's movement and got your pressure game up you would do much better vs him. Always be wary of the screw attack though. And don't double jump so much. Samus can punish that pretty easily if she is near you.

And for the counterpick stage...That is a hard one. Samus is good on alot of stages. Try out rainbow cruise though. While space animals can move about pretty normally on that stage samus has trouble and fox can pressure her pretty badly with his shine on that stage.

Alright cool, I think I'll start working on experimenting with Rainbow. Last night we were playing another set, and can you believe he counter picked Yoshi's Story?? Meh just making a comment, but I hate him right now because he won >.< :p

Against Samus, I suggest:

Battlefield: It slightly nerfs her recovery and it's a small stage so you can get in quick.

Green Greens: Samus can't do much here. Blocks in the way, and her recovery is good for nothing.

Onett and Peach's Castle: If they're legal. The reasons are pretty obvious.

Yoshi's Story: It's usually pretty decent against Samus. But the ones I've listed already are better.

Rainbow Cruise: Obvious.

Poke Floats: Obvious.

Kongo Junlge 64: She can't really grapple here, so that's the main advantage of this stage. It does have big sides/ceiling though, so it may be hard to kill her.

Jungle Japes: I've never tried this one, but it might be pretty decent now that I think about it.

edit: Mushroom Kingdom 2: Just thought of this one, but I'm sure it would be excellent.

Some general advice:

Short hop uairs are great against Samus and other crouch cancellers. They will lift the character off the ground or make them fall over and if they come off the ground you can usually get in one or two more. Waveshine to grab works really well if you can land a shffl'd shine. I know how Samus can get annoying with her up B out of the shield.

Also, against Samus, if the other person likes to up B out of his shield a lot, try waiting to let out the shffl'd aerial. What I mean is, use it at the end of the short hop and then shine so it's like two hits one after the other with little to no time for her to Up B. Doesn't always work, but something to try. Grabs are great. Down throw to tech chase is my personal favorite, because up throw won't do much against Samus if she's smart.

Definitely stop double jumping into your aerials. If you get caught before you hit the ground you're left with nothing but your Up B/Over B. That's not to say you should never do it, but don't overuse it. SHFFLs are usually a much better option.

Be patient. That's probably the biggest thing. It doesn't matter what character you're fighting (unless he/she is a scrub who you can easily overwhelm) you should dash dance and wait for grabs and other openings. Never attack if it's obvious that it won't hit(Unless you're sure that there won't be any consequence from missing). Throwing out attacks at nothing is useless and will only leave you open. Many people run out of patience and just run in with a shffl or something. Take advantage of their impatience. Wavedash back and run in with an attack/grab/whatever you like.

Okay, I'm done for now.

Mytez..ummm Samus has a few frames of invincibility when she up-b's so doing 2 quick attacks won't do anything >_>.
