(help)Downloading DLC without updating Smash Bros 4

Hi everyone,
I'm still on an older version of the game, where the edge physics weren't broken yet, and I really don't want to update. As it stands Kirby still falls off edges without stopping due to some magical barrier in the new updates, and I can't see a good reason why this should change.

However, Cloud Strife and Lucas and some classic N64 map DLC are too good to pass up.

Is my only option to update and then get the DLC or can I get the DLC without updating my game?

Thanks for any advice

You have to update because the update patches actually store the data for the characters and stages, not the DLC unlocks themselves. Think of the update as storing the files while the DLC purchase is a 'key' to use it.

You might think that's penny-pinching, but it's a practice used in all games that have multiplayer online, so that you can play with someone who does have the DLC while you don't, but can still go against them while they use the DLC. It keeps things compatible. Unfortunately that means no DLC for you if you don't want to update.

No. Also, you should update just for the fact that Kirby was buffed recently. I'm sure you'd like a combo throw, a kill throw, faster speed, and extra KB on many attacks.

And if you owned the 3DS version, you can't play with other players who already has the recent update.

I do have to say recent updates so afar are too highly focus on balancing characters rather than fixing some bugs and glitches in the game. Which can be very annoying sometimes.

What bugs and glitches need to be fixed?

Remember like when the Mewtwo patch came out, there were some problem when using Mewtwo online, so they quickly release a new patch to remove that bug.

Trust me, 3DS version had quite numerous of bugs and glitches, that unfortunately I can't really name up much. I just hope after the February patch, the future patches can be just game fixing patches rather than balance patches.

You "have" to update your software in order to use the new DLC characters. That's because the DLC character data is stored inside the update data. Cloud is completely incompatible with the older updates, because his data only exists in update versions 1.1.3 and later.

Could elaborate on this? I don't understand what this 'magical barrier' thing is about.
Thanks everyone, I'll update then. Can anyone comment on why the physics were updated to prevent sliding off edges? Anyone else feel like this is a terrible thing to change? Especially for kirby, who now gets pinned on corners and gets wrecked during the animation when he's coming out of his down B attack.

Depending on which version you are on, you may still be able to take advantage of exploits such as the Master Orders glitch before you update, but that assumes you are on 1.02 or older....

Down on the corner, out in the street.

...That was a change?

It sounds like you literally sit there in Down B and let the enemy hit you. Surely you must realize that if that consistently happens to you (getting hit out of the Down B animation), you really need to change the fact you do Down B next to the ledge so much.

Plus, is Down B even the great of a move anyway? Aren't you better off doing something else?
