[HELP] Characters to learn and their types?

Hi, before I start my online journey on the SSB 3DS i'd like to know which are the best chars to learn the game mechanics and what are their types (shooter, brawler, swordsman).

That ultimately depends on your own playstyle. Some people like the fast, offensive fighters, some like the ranged fighters, and so on. Though frankly, some fighters are easier to pick up than others (such as Pit, Mario, and Meta Knight). And some fighters have very steep learning curves, but are quite formidable once you know how to use them (such as Link, Robin, and Shulk).

Mine suggestion is to try out every character in training mode and find the one whom feels natural to you.
