Hey all, I've recently co-hosted a PM tournament with a friend of mine that was a pretty solid success. Things ran really smoothly considering it was my co-host and I's first tournament. We've off handedly discussed doing it on a more regular basis in CFL, potentially bi-weekly or monthly. On that note, I have a few questions, and I'm also open to any kind of general advice. I've read the stickies here and they were hugely helpful for the first one.

1. What is the best way to place a "stream" on both twitch and a projector? The venue that we've used has a large projector screen that I used to post the bracket on to, but I would like to be able to instead stream winners/losers/grand finals on it, since the bracket isn't much help at that point. We didn't stream anything this time around, but I have streamed on twitch before from my PC. I'm just not sure the best way to do both of those things simultaneously from the same TV.

2. What are some other ways to drum up interest? I live near a major university, so we posted fliers everywhere we could, posted to local FB pages for smash groups and also had a Smashboards page going. I don't have many ideas, but I'm always super open to suggestions. We did have nearly 40 entrants at our very first, but the more the merrier IMO.

3. Is there any generally accepted setup: player ratio? We had 10 setups for ~40 players, which felt a little low in the early rounds, but cleared up after the first round or two.

1. I have a guide for tournament streaming on Smashboards in fact so you can check that out for streaming. You would need to buy 6 splitters and 4 composite cables cause you need ones for your streaming device, T.V and projector.

2. It seems like what you did was just fine you posted fliers and on FB pages. One thing you you could do is make a group for your area on this link on Smashboards. So people can keep up on when tournaments are results etc.

3.You want to kinda even it out so 16 players as an example try to have at least 4 or more. Cause then 8 people are playing and 4 are not. So that's even if people bring more that's fine. But if you don't need anymore you can use those setups for friendlies.

I hope this helps you out and let me know if you need anymore help. And i'll edit this post for mistakes.

CFL? Awesome, I'm pretty close to you guys!
1.) Basically, it depends on your capture card, update me on which one you have and I'll give you a detailed way to do it.
2.) FB is good, Twitter, SB, anywhere you can basically, although, as you host more, more people will attend.
3.) There's not really a set ratio, but there should be enough to have tourney and friendlies going on at the same time, to help, you can ask attendees to bring setups.

Thanks guys! I actually do not have a capture card, but I was looking into buying an inexpensive one. Whatever would be the easiest without spending a significant amount of money (It's coming from my own personal funds) would be ideal. I could converse with our players and see if a $1 extra charge next time around to help me pay for some recording stuff would be okay with them, but if it's not hella pricey I'd just do it myself. I strongly dislike the thought of doing anything with the money besides paying out the players. But I've been doing research and seeing that it's fairly accepted to use venue fees to reinvest into equipment, so maybe I'll try to communicate to my players and see how they feel about a $2 venue fee on top of a $5 pot fee.

Anyways, if our attendance starts to balloon (which I think it may, as we had 40 entrants in our first event, which was on the same weekend as Gatorlan, which took a lot of our top players to Gainesville) I will let you know, and maybe you can bring some players out with you! Where in Florida are you at?

I recommend getting a dazzle or something if you can't invest into an Elgato, otherwise your quality will be poop, also, if you need an overlay done, I'd be glad to make you one so hit me up. I'm SWFL (Fort Myers/Cape Coral area).
