Hi, my name is Chris! I grew up with Melee in my childhood.

I was one of those guys who was "really good" in my group of friends but as soon as I branched out to competitive smash I got my ass kicked. Currently I play some Sm4sh and I'm trying to learn competitive Melee(although my Melee main says Roy, I'll probably try to double main/secondary Marth because lol tiers/there's more knowledge on Marth than there is Roy obviously). I figure Smashboards is a good utility to learn some new stuff and meet some cool players. I've been active on r/smashbros for a while, too. I'm definitely more of a spectator than a player currently. I plan on changing that soon!

also I guess cuss words are filtered but not removed, is there an option to turn the filter off? Lol.

sup, i too am a chris, i haven't gone to any tourney, but i do consider myself decent amongst my friends. Do you follow competitive smash much, its a good way to learn some stuff, watching others play at a high level. I recommend checking this channel out called SSBM tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC46ZTid4t2ctB6osM0WTiJA
Yeah, I watch a ton of players and sets in both Melee and Sm4sh! I'm a huge fan of m2k's Marth in particular. I know a lot of the tech executed by top players by name, but by practice I can't really do any of it yet. I can't wavedash or SHFF very well yet.

I got into watching a lot of competitive around APEX of last year. I plan on going to college soon and the professor REALLY wants to start a smash club, so I'm kinda biding my time until I can figure that out I guess. I have no friends who want to learn with me and I have pretty shoddy internet.

Thanks! Well I'll avoid swearing then, but I wish there was an option to turn the filter on/off. I'm a bit vulgar sometimes, haha.

I get that, i can wavedash and short hop now, but L cancel and some other stuff is still a bit tricky for me, to wavedash, learn short hop first, it will help out a lot. Good luck with starting up your smash playing, and have fun doing all that.

I'll start figuring some more stuff out! L cancelling was actually the first thing I focused on and I can do it about 60% of the time now. Of course I haven't had the chance to play anybody yet but learning the fundamentals is probably better than just jumping into fights against everybody, right?

another problem I face is that I lost my Wii A/V cables and all I have to practice with is Dolphin. My computer can run it well and I have the Mayflash GC adapter, but it still has weird input issues sometimes.

i feel you man, my pc runs good, but i use a ps4 controller instead, i feel like tech will become slightly easier to do once i have the actual gamecube controller. How is the smash scene where you live?

Surely it will! Well there's not much of a Smash scene AFAIK, I think some Universities around me have Smash clubs, but I'd rather not try to barge in on a college club when I'm just an 18 year old kid straight outta highschool, not to mention somebody who won't go to that college in the future anyways. My friends get together and play Sm4sh sometimes but that's about it, and I tend to beat them 70-80% of the time consistently. We even have small tourneys and I'll play a character that isn't a main/secondary (last time I played Yoshi and all of my Yoshi experience is watching combo videos) and still win, so I don't think I'll get much off of that because they're not serious about it.

all that i really get from my city is my friends who play, my one friend did a brawl mini tourney at his house a while ago, and i won that, and then my 2 friends and i get together on Project M every so often to practice stuff, but i think i might be able to get a small smash group going in my city soon, if enough people are interested.

I actually do have one friend who is interested in competitive smash, but he just wants to play Sm4sh. My passion is definitely in Melee, even though I want to play both. He's going to the same college as I am though and we're both banking on the Smash Club working out.

Welcome to the boards!

Unfortunately there's no such option available in this forum software. Be aware also that censor dodging (inserting BB code or "invisible" characters into swear words such that the filter doesn't recognise them) is not allowed; if you must swear, just let it out so that the censor can pick it up.

Thanks! And that's fine. I probably just won't swear anyways. Nice pic btw :p I heard that you don't pick fights you can't win.
