Smash Cadet
Hello everyone, I got into fighting games with the release of SF4 and I loved every second of them. I've played SF4, MVC3, and Soul calibur 2-5 extensively. I never really felt that super smash bros was a fighting game until I really got into it. Then I could definitely see what people were talking about (Brawl being used as an argument didn't help). Plus, most characters in the smash roster didn't resonate with me (I kinda enjoyed marth in melee, I didn't enjoy anyone in brawl). I was hyped to hear Little Mac was in smash 4 and then I could really start to enjoy the game(I also enjoy Fox) .
I also wanted to extend my gratitude to all of the hard working people on smashboards who make it easier to get into this game. Shout outs to Thinkaman and others for working hard and providing frame data, that information is invaluable.
One thing I have noticed about this fighting game compared to others. I've found that players who throw out hitboxes all of the time and are hyper aggressive are some of the hardest people to beat. I know I'm up against good players because they will make reads and I will in return, and it will go back and forth. However, players who just keep throwing out hitboxes and grabs seem to be the most troubling ones. You go for a combo? They A-neutral out. You go for a follow up? They A-Neutral. They whiff an attack? They jab or grab. In other games throwing out moves like this wildly would spell their own doom but I feel like in smash 4 it's a very good strategy and often times will net you the game. The best one can do is block/spot dodge and then retaliate, but some characters are so safe that this can lead to situations where they can't be stopped a majority of the time.
Even worse, is the concept that when you land a hit, instead of putting your opponent into a 50/50 situation, they put YOU in a 25/25/25/25 situation. Will they a-neutral out of a combo? will they just double jump? will they land with an attack? Will they just land and jab?
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy this game. That's just my 2 cents from playing other fighting games. I look forward to talking to you all and potentially sparring in the future( I only have a 3ds).
