Hello everyone, my name is Big Boss. I am new to Smash Boards as a user. I wanted to join because it seems like a great community to be a part of and I was hoping to contribute to the community myself. To get started, I do have a few opinionated questions for everyone if you do not mind. Link has always been my main character in Smash Bros. due to my appreciation of his games but something has been bothering me.

Do you think Link has a chance to be competitively viable now that the creators have finally buffed him up in SSB4 or do you think he may follow his old trend of barely having a chance at major tournaments?

Link does not have the best frame data and does not have the safest moves.
However his recovery is good, he is heavy for his size, he can force approaches, he can control the stage, he can space well, he can combo decently, he has plenty kill options, he usually has a lot of advanced techniques, (and he is an awesome character!) :smirk:

I ask this because my Link is great in casuals, online, and against midlevel skilled players. I have yet to truly test him against high level professionals so I do not know how viable he is.

Also, if Link is not viable enough, then should I focus more on mastering another character for any tournaments that I would go to? What do you all think?

Thanks for your consideration.

Welcome to the boards! I hope you enjoy your time here. I'm not huge into the competitive aspect of things as of yet. As a result, I'm afraid I can't answer your questions regarding Link's viability in the latest Super Smash Bros. games. I wish I could, though. Sorry about that.

In Smash 4, I might encourage a character such as Diddy Kong, Rosalina, Shulk, or Captain Falcon.

(However Link could be a decent choice, if you're willing to put in some extra work.)

I personally main Mewtwo and Robin in Smash 4 and haven't run into much trouble.

Welcome to the boards!
The general opinion of Link seems to be that he is somewhere in the mid to lower tiers. However, most people also agree that Smash 4 is one of, if not the most balanced game in the series, so he might still stand a chance.

Thanks for dropping by Cyndane, Flight, AudioSilver, and Moydow. I appreciate the greetings and your input. I think I will stick with Link for now. Hopefully, the meta is kind to such an awesome character. Haha
