Headsets vs Desktop Mic for Commentary

I'm currently in the planning stages of a fancy pants stream and I'm wondering if I need to shell out the cash for a fancy mixer and 2 or 3 nice headsets or if I could just get a Blue Snowball/Yeti or and AT2020usb and some okay sets of headphones. I know most high budget streams use headsets but this is all out of pocket. What streamers use desktop mics? Is it necessary to shell out the extra $$$ for the nicer setup?

Headsets are generally better if you want commentary for your tournament. Standing mics don't do as well in a room full of people.

If this is only for smashfests you can prolly get a snowball or something (would argue it's better cause everyone gets to talk that way)

That being said since this is a budget stream you don't have to buy the most expensive high tech mics. Just look for some cheap ones with good reviews

Headsets generally are better due to all the background noise that a standing mic would get. Keep in mind, you don't yet need super good headsets, you can get those later with money you earn for the stream.

Could you recommend me a good budget headset that would work well for this?

What would be the best way to go about connecting two headsets at one time to my computer? I'm thinking two 3.5mm splitters but that seems pretty janky.
