HDTV Lag

I got a new HDTV for Christmas, and I knew I'd have to fix the lag somehow. I went out and bought 2 madcatz universal cords to fix it, I have everything plugged in right and I have the switch to the 'HDTV' switch as opposed to 'TV' but it still seems to be lagging and it's not any affect on it as opposed to if I have it switched on 'TV' with the yellow cord plugged in. Anyone know what to do?

What's the response time of your TV?
If you mean how long it takes for it to read what you are pressing, then about 1/4 of a second I'm guessing.

Also, I was messing with GH3 for the 360 on it and it seems to work fine, although I was using the original cords for it, I also heard that the dashboard update also came with reduced lag.

Response time has little or nothing to do with lag today. It's all about scaling, deinterlacing, and preprocessing. Sorry Cashed. :)

Player-1, you're going to have to tell us exactly what TV you have, what game system you're using (sounds like a 360) and what input type you're using (sounds like component video). But in the end, you're probably just going to be stuck with the lag.

=/, I'm using a Sanyo HDTV (not sure if you want me to get the model and all that stuff), I'm using a Wii and 360. When I play GH world tour it doesn't lag when I use the Xbox 360 cords or the madcatz cords (I'm actually playing better when I play with the madcatz, but it still feels the same). I'm using composite universal cords. I have the standard yellow video, white and red audio along with the green, blue, and red video and red and white audio and it can attach to the 360, Wii, and Ps2/3 (hence the universal). It's just lagging when I play the wii, maybe it's because the wii just sucks ***.

Inside of Word Tour, do the "Calibrate Lag" option. It will make you do hit a series of notes and such and it will measure the total latency (lag) that you're experiencing. Do it several times to make sure you're getting it right, too.

And try that under several settings, using different cords and such. Let us know what you get.

For the record, the 3 split cables that are Red, Yellow, and White that look like these (below) are called "Composite Video" They are standard definition cables.

The ones which are Reg, Blue, and Green are called "Component Video" (below) These are HD cables. (But can be used to transmit normal signals, too)

Use gold plated componet cables, they dramatically reduce lag, it got to the pont were I can play Guilty Gear on an HDTV

No it doesn't, lol. Poor connections for analog signals will cause poor picture quality. But that's it. Even then, the effectiveness of "high-end" analog cabling is highly debated.

I did the GH thing. The xbox 360 composite (getting the lingo down =)) cables and the madcatz universal cables were about the same, the madcatz was slightly better, might have been coincidence, but it was veeeeeerrrrrrrrrry slight. When i say universal, I mean it has both composite and component and it can be attached to 360, wii, and PS2/3. I heard that the dashboard update for the 360 also updated it so it can handle more HDTV lag, I think that might be why it doesn't happen for the 360, but it does for the wii.

Well, zero is good. :) Could you list the model number, or some other ID number on the TV? I'm *sort of* in the market for a new TV, and need one that won't lag.

So I guess there is no problem, then?

Alt if you're looking for tvs that lag less, you might want to look into the ones they use for the MLG events. I think the new ones are Viewsonics that are supposed to have like 5 ms of lag.

I have, they're... just too small for standard TV use, you know? 22" just isn't enough to use as am all-purpose TV.

I have seen a 37" model of the Viewsonic, though. That looks appealing.

I'll get the info later today when it's not 1:00 in the morning, but the problem is that it lags on my wii, but not my 360, even when I have the component cables in

Yup. The Wii can't output in HD. So your TV has to scale the video up to play it, and that causes lag.

You can try to minimize it by playing in 480p (progressive scan mode) and making sure the aspect ratio is correct (not playing in 4:3 mode on a widescreen TV)
