HDMI adapter for N64?

Are there any AV to HDMI adapters that work for the N64? I recently dug out my old N64 and Dreamcast and then ordered a little $10 MINI adapter online so I could hook them up to my modern tv. It works fine when I put my Dreamcast in but when I put the N64 in the picture skips like crazy. I have an audio cable hooked up before the adapter (my tv is a monitor with no sound) and the sound is fine so I'm thinking the adapter doesn't like N64 signal for some reason. I've heard that these things are really finicky and sometimes work but sometimes don't. Are there any good ones out there that do work for this system?

Cheap adapters like those are known for being laggy as hell, and older consoles will look particularly crappy on an HDTV when running composite through them. Even if you can get an N64 to run through that $10 doodad, it's probably not worth it.

The best option by far is a specialty retro gaming HDMI converter/upscaler like the XRGB-mini Framemeister, which actually makes the image HD quality with no added lag, but those are crazy expensive and have to be imported from Japan.

Yowza, any slightly cheaper options?

*Eff it, I'm gonna get an s-video cable for it. Get a VGA for the DC as well. Don't know if they make one that has both or not.
