Having trouble with teching....

Is the timing window for teching in Smash 4 very small? I only seem to tech 10% of the time. Is there any way to consistently eyeball when I should be pressing my shoulder button?

Quite literally, eyeball it for when you're about to hit the floor/wall/ceiling/whatever. It feels more or less the same to me as in past games.

I honestly think the window for teching is larger in this game; anytime I get hit into a wall/ceiling at high percent, I stick there for at least half a second before bouncing away, and that whole time is techable. My friends noticed that too, seems like the devs made teching easier.

Ukemi is easier to do in this game. Offline, I can do it pretty consistently. Online though, is a bit tricky.

Teching is something I can never imagine I'll be able to use consistently.
It took me years to even use my shield..

Huh, I've always called it ukemi. So I've been teching without knowing it? I haven't had much trouble but it's a skill that I've gained from playing so many fighting games with a lot smaller frames to do it. Try practicing with any game that has it, could help sharpen your timing for it.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been improving a bit, I think it's cause I'm out of practice with smash bros. in general, but I swear it was much easier in melee.

Honestly, I thought the same thing at first because I'm used to Melee teching as well. I've found that you should tech just a split second after when you think you should because of the sticky bounce you get.

The actual name for the technique is ukemi. Brawl's official site listed it as such.

Honestly, for me, it gets easier and harder at random intervals.
