Smash 3DS Have reached 300 Play coins (Play coin speculation)

I have been working an maxing out my coin count for a while now, some times even traveling to the future to get extra coins in one day.

I has been stated by Nintendo of America that the Gold that you collect by playing the various modes that can be used in other modes. Judging from this picture of the Trophy Shop I have a sneaky feeling that Play Coins will be another method of currency. So would that translate to other modes like extra lives in classic mode, adventure mode, or special upgrades?

What are your Ideas?

2. Coins could also be used to get custom parts.
Edit: And (maybe and hopefully) you can use the coins to unlock characters and stages.

Maybe unlock characters, stages thst you can't complete, or buy Mii costumes.

Buying customs or extra lives for classic mode seems kind of a overkill.

Perhaps it'll be just a another method of currency for the trophy shop.

Actually you can also use play coins in Mii Plaza, Animal Crossing etc.

I like to use them to get puzzle pieces, I have 4 3DS's so I like to collect the hats for my Mii plaza mini games

Plus I am a tourney host in japan and I need these 3DS's for upcoming tournaments, just if you were curios about why I have four of them.

If you guys really have 300 coins saved up, there's no shame in spending a few. I spend about ten to thirty coins every time I hit the 300-coin limit, and then all the walking I do with the 3DS in my pocket doesn't go to waste.

I haven't been storing up, but I guess I should be. Worst case-scenario, if we can use a bunch of Play Coins for worthwhile things, I'll start stocking them when the Japanese version comes out and I'll be all prepared when the English one rolls around.

Maybe they could be used to buy custom parts for your characters. I hope they're used for something, because I've only ever used them for fortune cookies in Animal Crossing.

Hats for my Miis would be fine. Otherwise I only use 'em for puzzle pieces in the Plaza.

I think it's either gonna be you can only buy some special trophy's with PC's, you can convert them to the "gold" stuff, or maybe buy new Mii hats and costumes.

While unlockable characters would be awesome, I feel like too many people would just completely abuse it to unlock them all early (I know I would abuse it to get Robin and Lucina at least). Mii outfits would be perfect though- they're optional, not too game-changing, but an excellent bonus for people who do use the Streetpass and Play Coins features.

Yeah, I agree, I honestly wouldn't like using Play Coins to unlock characters...less of a feel of accomplishment, like great? I shook my 3DS around in the air a lot? I'd feel better actually having to beat classic mode and stuff to unlock them.

If it is like that though, I hope the characters are in some sort of shop (with silhouettes) so I could unlock my one or two favorite that I'm dying to play as and then I'll just unlock all the rest myself. I'd hate if it were a random lottery and I wasted all of my Play Coins and unlocks to get Robin/Lucina last.

I honestly wouldn't wind getting alts with playcoins, that'd be pretty cool.

It just dawned upon me. looking at the image on my first post. I hope the trophies do not cost 300 Play coins.

If you look at it, none of the shown trophies are over 300G (Gold). Would Sakurai be that mean to us and want us to get hand cramps by shaking our 3DS's? could Gold be 1-1with Play coins?

Dont think so. If you look at the one where you can change the difficulty he has over 1000g. I'll see if I can find it.

Nvm looks like its the limit but either way I highly doubt the conversion ratio is that bad. Especially since you only get 10 a day.
Maybe its the reward actually. But who knows... either way it wouldn't be of much use if it wasn't pretty high conversion rate.

A theory that I had is that a single Play Coin would equal 10 Smash Coins. So if a trophy costs 300 Smash Coins, you can use 30 Play Coins to purchase the trophy.

However, the amount of purchases that you can make with the Play Coins would be limited per day; Ex.: You can only use your Play Coins to purchase three things per day.

While it would be reasonable to cap the number of trophies/other items you can buy per day, the system kind of limits you to that eventually since you can only earn 10 per day. While you'd be able to splurge on the shop at first, you'd eventually run out of coins and only be able to get back 10 at a time. Based on the trophy costs, I could even see it being 100 smash coins = 1 play coin as the cost in play coins hasn't been terribly high in any game I've played so far, and 30 play coins for one trophy sounds a bit high to me.
