Now that Smash 4 Evo is over has it changed your opinion on how competitively viable Smash 4 is? If so, for better or worse?

It didn't really change my opinion, but my gut tells me this game is another "heat of the moment" type of game. When Smash 5 comes out, I can see this game joining brawl on the shelf.

It's a great game, but theirs just something about the first two smash games (particularly melee more than the original) that keeps me coming back for more. I don't get this sort of feeling from smash 4 no matter how much I play or watch it, but I will enjoy it to the fullest while its around.

Even though this game is nowhere near Melee's speed, this game is still fun to both watch and play. My only nitpick is how defensive the game is, and it can get a little boring to watch after a while. Some may say that customs for some characters promote a campy playstyle, but it's not like Melee's ledge mechanics supported that too. As of now, my opinion has not changed since release.

I've always believed in Sm4sh...I mean, I know it probably won't maintain the longevity that Melee has, but I think it can be a competitively viable game, even if it is extremely unorthodox. I feel like if customs are made legal for the majority of tourneys, and the online modes stay populated, then this game will outlast Brawl at the very least. EVO was HUGE for Sm4sh, the number of entrants was wild, and we're starting to see a lot of new up and rising players. The community is growing faster than ever, and rivalries have already begun. Sm4sh may not be what Melee was, but that doesn't mean that it's not a great game in it's own right.

I don't think it will be as big as Melee, but Smash 4 has quite a bright future. The things kept Smash 4 from shining were Hoo-Haa and Vectoring, but those are not present anymore. The playstyle is also pretty aggressive, despite defensive matchups: quite the opposite of Brawl. The game is also constantly patched and balanced, opening a path to a game that constantly gets more fair.

It didn't change my opinion. The game itself is near perfect as a competitive game.

But EVO also further enforced my opinion that we overrate "top" players and base match up discussion on them far too much, and that the community in general is toxic, at least in the US.

Nah. I didn't watch too much of it but I already kinda knew what would go on and what characters would do the best. I hope the next balancing patch (if we get one) gives more of the buffs and nerfs needed, but if not, it's not the end of the world. There are a lot of competitively viable characters in this game seeing as the roster is so huge.
