a lot of people (including myself) were very excited when Sakurai announced that you could record your Brawls and save them onto an SD, because we thought it'd be an easy way to upload the videos onto your computer and subsequently YouTube.

but...

what format do you think the videos are going to be in? i think it's a definite possibility that the videos are going to be saved in a format only compatible with the replay mode in Brawl. otherwise, the game would have to convert its recorded data into a more compatible video format, such as an mpeg, which is HUGE and seems like it would be troublesome to do.

what do you guys think?

regardless of what it's saved as it will still make uploading easier. You won't have to record every match live, you can come back and record it later.

I don't think it will be like screen capture, but kinda like how Halo3 handles its replays.

If something like that happened then hopefully someone would make a program to convert it if thats even possible. I think they'll take the file format into account though, 6 MORE MINUTES TILL UPDATE YES!

it will probably be in its own format like you suggested, but sooner or later some programmer will create a program to convert it to mpeg or whatever we need

The recording feature added doesn't actually "record" your matches like your thinking. It only does replays which means in order to watch these on your computer you will have to have all the textures, game info, etc. to watch them.

Yep. For example, while watching a replay, you'll still be able to pause and zoom in on a character. It's like watching CPUs play.

actually, what you just posted is exactly what i was thinking. in that case, the videos will only be able to be watched on your wii. youtube would be out of the question.

though, as long as someone made a Brawl emulator, we could be in business...

I don't think emulator would be the word for it...Though it would be nice to see some "Application" that has all the brawl info from the .iso on it so we could convert it to .avi or something. But are chances of seeing that are slim. We might as well keep are capture cards out for a bit longer =\

The format will be no viable video format. It will be pure Brawl match data readable only by the game. By storing only what moves players use (not how to draw them), the files will be extremely compact.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. Button memorization!
It's probably why Mario Kart can save so many ghosts now.

Well, at least you'll be able to come back later like the other guy said, or you could take your replays to someone that does have a video capture device and have him upload it.
