Well, It's a big year for Anniversaries this year, With Megaman, Metroid If I'm not mistaken, and now Sonic!
Lets get a thread going to celebrate! What's your guys' fondest memories of Sonic? Favorite Game?
Lets keep it positive, it is a birthday after all!
Mine would be the hours upon hours trying to beat Marble Palace Zone in Sonic 1, then giving up and switching to Sonic 2
Let's hear some from you guys :p
Oh, and let me know If I missed any games in the poll :)

Happy birthday, Sonic! You've might've had less ups than downs, but the ups I had a lot of fun with in my childhood.
Hoping whatever Sonic Team makes for their 25th anniversary is a good game.

Also for anyone that hasn't, they really should check out the official Sonic Twitter account https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/

Lots of fun stuff there. Really channels that snarky and sarcastic personality of Sonic too.

As for fondest memories? Everything from Sonic 3 (and Knuckles). Game was just so fun and a lot more forgiving compared to 1 and 2. I got to enjoy it at my own pace. While not my favorite game, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle as well. I never owned it, and would play it whenever I went to a friend's and finally beat it. Also Chao Garden.

Sonic Team recently announced they're working on a new game that's going to launch in 2017. I'm feeling pretty good about it, since I've actually really liked their past few games.

Just don't read the comments section of any article on the subject. It's not even the fans that make my head hurt these days, they're fine. It's the leagues of people that just follow the "LOL SANIC SUX" meme who keep begging for SEGA to kill off the franchise.

Also looking at the latest trailer for Sonic Boom Fire and Ice... it doesn't look that bad either. I keep thinking the game was released though, but they're timing its release with the show it seems. I definitely want to check out the TV show for it sometime. Been hearing mostly good things.

Even worse is the fact that some of the fans actually want the series to disappear forevermore, like it would be some sort of mercy killing, or just to spite other fans who might not mind the direction the series is currently taking. That should be something that NO ONE wants to see happen.

On a more positive note....

There's no doubt that Sonic 3 is among the finest games I've played in the series. Solidly designed, good music, and with proper use of the alternate characters, Sonic 3 is the shining example of how a Sonic game should be designed. And though this game has flaws, I still enjoyed my runs through SA2 (primarily the Sonic/Shadow stages). The other gameplay styles worked, but they were a bit too unlike Sonic(which is the Adventure series' biggest design flaw).

But anyway, Happy 25th Sonic, and I wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Happy 25th Sonic! :4sonic: Although my favorite is Sonic 3 & Knuckles, I still remember the first Sonic game for Sega Genesis/Megadrive as my first experience in that franchise. ;)

Happy Birthday Sonic the Hedgehog! :4sonic:
I think my favourite Sonic game is also Sonic 3, I absolutely loved every second of it.
I also really liked Sonic Generation and Rush Adventure!
I can't wait to see how this new Sonic game will look like!

I never played the game, but I'm just gonna go off a guess and say this is what players saw half the time.
Definitely don't unless you're like me and wanted to see a piece of Sonic's dark history from Sonic Team. When you had to do missions from townspeople, you have to accept the mission, loading, get briefed, loading, do the mission, loading, get told you completed it, loading. If you happened to fail though, experience all those loading screens again. They were quite long too.
I think my favorite part of that video was just how in tune with the memes it was.
If you want to see the interview of the guy behind social media Sonic http://www.theverge.com/2016/6/23/12008576/sonic-the-hedgehog-sega-twitter-interview-meme
It's actually a really good interview and shows how transparent Sega is now and how they're much more willing to listen. If only this had happened in time before Sonic 4's release, the game could've ended up better.

I remember Sega doing a Sonic stream that was similar to this video. For 2006 it just showed Sonic Riders followed by "And that's all so let's move on"

Happy late birthday Sonic the Hedgehog! My fondest memories of him were during the Gamecube era through Mega Collection, Heroes, Riders and Adventure 2 Battle.

The alternative is more Sonic Booms, and do you really want that? Unless this next game does well, a mercy kill is the only thing in Sonic's future.

At any rate, I didn't grow up with Sonic, I was always into Mario, so while I'm not necessarily as in touch with the series as I'd like to be, I've still played a lot of them, for better or worse, and I think my favorites would have to be Sonic Rush and Sonic Generations. Also: confession time, Sonic 2006 is a guilty pleasure of mine.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

Yeah, Sonic Boom is a sign that a quick death is the only thing for Sonic's future. It's not like he's had a number of well-received games in the past ten years or anything.

But seriously, this is what's actually killing Sonic. The fact that legions of people would rather ignore everything good that comes out of the franchise and wait in the bushes for a bad game to pop out so they can beat it together and laugh.

Sonic alone was my childhood. First game was Sonic Heroes and i couldn't beat the power plant for a year  (i was 4 lol). But my favorite sonic game and my second favorite game in general (after smash, of course) would have to be SA2. IMO, it is EXACTLY what a sonic game should be, with the wide array of abilities and equipment, story (it wasn't the best, but for a videogame it wasn't horrible), use of different and unique characters (although they should've had more sonic/shadow levels compared to the other characters), and of course the music was some of Sonic's best! But at least they are heading in the right direction now with games like Sonic Generations and Colors (screw Boom, that wasn't even Sonic Team people need to keep that in mind and not think that is the quality of sonic games to come)

Yes, that's what's killing Sonic, and not the fact that SEGA clearly has no idea what the hell they're doing. Every time they find themselves a formula that actually works, they proceed to immediately **** it up. The last good Sonic game was Generations, and that was what? Five years ago?

Sonic Team's only made one new Sonic game on their own after Generations and that was Lost World though. It was by the Colors team and was made right after Colors' development finished. The game's part of the Nintendo Sonic exclusivity deal that was made (I think it was 3 games), so it's not surprising that they're going to test new ideas when you got funds from Nintendo instead of using that opportunity to rehash the same ideas.

Last good mainline Sonic game might've been 5 years ago with Generations, but it's sort of because they're still working on their new game.

Sonic Boom is merely a spinoff with Sonic's name slapped on it. Sure it might've left a mark on the brand as a whole, but it's not really indicative of Sonic's future. But I guess the average consumer isn't gonna know that offhand.

Sonic Anniversary party currently going on. They just revealed Sonic Mania and it looks pretty fantastic.

Another announcement should be at 9:55 PM PST, presumably Sonic Team's game for the 25th anniversary.

I don't know how I feel about this yet. Growing up on the Adventure series and the Archie Comics, I'm all for Sonic going a bit darker and more serious (not to extremes like Shadow the Hedgehog, although on that note I feel like Colors went too far in the opposite direction).

Posting further thoughts down here to not spoil the trailer's big surprise:

They're bringing back Classic Sonic again. I know why, Generations was the most successful Sonic game in years. I'm afraid Sonic 2017 is going end up being a Generations rehash and that Sega will flip-flop between old and new Sonic until the end of time. Maybe they'll do something new with it, but I'm not feeling optimistic

I have mixed feelings on the 2017 project trailer. I love Classic Sonic and all, but it felt weird having a Mania, Fire & Ice, and then a game that has Classic Sonic as a part of it. Also the darker/serious part of the trailer wasn't something I was expecting, but we'll see how it goes. Iizuka did say it's not a sequel before the trailer was shown. It's hard to say what that means. Either the gameplay's going to be much different than what a Generations 2 would be like or maybe it's not counted like a sequel if we're not revisiting stages this time.

Either way, I want gameplay footage, and I hope it turns out good. No matter what, I'll at least have Mania next year.

It's good to see some fundamentals return to the series after a long stretch of seeing :4sonic: bounce around every which way in terms of gameplay styles and being generally inconsistent. And we've got Tails and Knuckles joining him which is great (and I'm assuming all characters have their specific abilities), among some other good stuff making a return, such as the elemental shields (seeing them was a big plus for me). Now I really would love to know how many classic zones (besides GHZ) will be remixed in Mania. Oh, and the zone bosses are getting upgraded too, based on what we saw in GHZ.

Also, that island is in the shape of :4sonic:'s face.

As for Project 2017, other than the fact of Classic Sonic appearing alongside his Modern self, I don't really know what to expect from it. The game could be much like Generations, or it might not be. Can't tell with just a trailer, I need to see more of it.

Where are the Sonic Advance games they were the best. I can't wait to play both those games by the way, it's been a while since good sonic games came out.

Happy birthday Sanic!

Just revisited the thread, I added the Sonic Advance Trilogy to the poll, I don't know how it slipped my mind, considering how much I played Advance 3 xD
