Yeah, informative topic title. >_>

Okay, so went to my second event today, and I still sucked, loool. But it was another good experience and taught me again that I need more techskill. Well, I think the amount of techskill I have is fine. I just need more consistent techskill.

But besides that, I NEED HELP KNOWING WHAT TO DO >:[

One thing I need help with is shield pressure. Namely Falco. I can play my friend who mains Falcon and sometimes plays Falco because he thinks he'll win with him against my Fox. That happens occasionally, but he isn't that great (neither am I, but just saying). So when I went up against some other people playing Falco, I got scared and just stayed inside my shield.

WHAT DO I DO? ;-; They start waveshining around me and double-shining and pillaring... I can't dash dance from a distance because lasers are gay. Approaches are shut down by said lasers, and approaches from above via platform usually get owned by Falco's shine. Sometimes u-tilt. All I know to do is u-throw > stuff or FJ n-air. I can shine OoS, too, but that only gets me so far.

Speaking of u-throw how do you get grabs?! All the noobs falcos might f-smash my shield to get shield-grabbed, but any decent Falco (or any decent player in general) will avoid such a laggy move that gets them right in front of me for a grab. Usually, I can DD > grab or maybe SHFFL > grab, but projectiles with stun (basically all except Fox's lasers) just gay me up.

If anyone has anything I can try out (that isn't just plain made up), I'd be willing to practice it both on my own and against my friend while expecting to lose. Despite being a bit outdated, CunningKitsune's guide has a lot of good stuff on specific match-ups - more than enough for me at the moment. So, basically, I'm asking for help on general playing.

grab stuff

-full hop drill/SH drill > grab
-run up power shield >grab

its tough getting them on a good falco. Kinda gotta not get in the habit of relying on them vs him definitely. And unless you are rly good using that philosophy vs jiggs would be a good idea too.

grabbing falco is deceptively easy. you knock him down with nair or shine or whatever, and then you tech chase him. tech chasing is often easiest to do with grabs, so you just grab him that way. the hard part is getting close enough to get a good knockdown.

i feel you like you make it sound easier than it is. High level players in general mix their tech patterns pretty well. so much so that sometimes its a guessing game. Its not so guaranteed/cut and dry as you seem to be implying.

let not forget that missing a grab on falco often results in a shine combo.(via spotdodge). I personally do not recommend going for the tech chase grab so often. of course do it to keep them honest but by no means you should cnosider it easy or a really good and accessible opportunity for grab in most chases. you will get punished hard if you miss.

Hmmm... I think your ideas for grabs are worth trying, SwiftBass. I have to get out of the habit of constantly trying to approach or attack with FJ-nairs, I guess, lol. I don't know what you mean by your second-to-last sentence in your first reply, though.

And yeah, tech-chasing is too hard at even semi-high levels of play. The only time I find myself able to completely follow is when I'm following a Falcon since his tech is so ridiculously slow and readable. But that's still only if they tech. If they don't, my mind just doesn't register it. >_>

wait what? you can tech chase falco with fox on reaction a lot of the time. that's not exactly easy, but the level of play doesn't affect it.

Yah, but I consider "more techskill" as knowing and being able to do more things. Good techskill is like you defined. Quality over quantity, they say.

AND I HAVE FIGURED OUT MY TECHSKILL PROBLEM!!!! I found out that I was doing things too fast. Not that I was too fast for Fox or anything, but I'm still to nub to think "okay, drill... time for waveshine." I still have to process "Drill.. okay, shine... okay, wavedash." And not rushing helps me be more consistent.

I also watched some of my videos and wrote up a list of things to fix.
