I Played Halo on DS
Once upon a time, a very smart publisher came up with a brilliant idea. It contacted Microsoft and got the ball rolling on a very unlikely project: Halo for Nintendo DS. Needless to say, there were many egos involved and unfortunately because of some issues that I won't detail, the project was eventually cancelled. But not before it was completely up and running and fully playable. I know all his because I recently learned of the back-story and got a chance to play a leaked build of Halo on DS for myself.

Amazingly, the ill-fated DS version of the title plays remarkably well. Think Metroid Prime Hunters but with a Halo facelift. I had the opportunity to run through the beginning beach area and noted while playing that it looked like Xbox Halo except on DS, it was running fast, and the control was responsive. The trademark Halo music even played out of the tiny speakers of Nintendo's handheld. It is really, truly a ****ed shame that certain publishers couldn't make this happen because it would have undoubtedly been a huge hit and would have only furthered the popularity of DS and the Halo franchise.

Now that DS is enjoying a clear lead over PSP and the Halo franchise is bigger than ever, I'd like to see this game-that-could-have-been actually come to exist on the retail market. It's too good of an idea and the execution is too impressive to let it collect dust in the forgotten cabinet of a publisher's vaporware library.

Would you buy Halo on DS?

Holy ****, that's freaking amazing. When I saw to guys with vids of halo DS, and then found they were using the max media player and syncing their afingers with a recording I was so dissapointed. But if this happened, the DS would probably jump up like 25% in sales. Seriously I'd love microsoft for allowing it to happen.

Am I wrong in thinking that Microsoft was proposing the idea of a portable system? As good as halo for the DS might have been, wouldn't it be a tad awkward if Microsoft did make a hand held, and their number one seller was already on another hand held?

Nope, Microsoft would never let Halo be on a Nintendo system.
It's like Mario on the PS3 or XBOX 360. It may sound good but I doubt it will ever happen unless they reached that agreement and stuff.

I also had my doubts about this. I mean, Halo on DS would be like a dream. But like others have said: What if Microsoft came out with a portable?

Of course if they weren't going to then this would be a good way to help put the final nail in the PSP's already well sealed coffin.

Microsoft never had a handheld gaming device going. They had something people thought was one, but it was really just like a ultra portable tablet PC. So it could run Halo PC.

Also, it's not the same as putting mario on the PS3. A, because nintendo has a console market. Microsoft has no handheld market. B, Halo is an old game. Halo 2 is out. Halo 3 is coming out. Re-releasing halo as a portable with the bonus of touchscreen and tight controls would get them tons of profit. They can still drive the Wii out of the market and not the DS. If they would release a portable Halo, they'll release it on the DS since that's selling so much more than the PSP. Furthermore, most Microsoft representatives have either said they support the Wii60, mIcrosoft and nintendo unite against PS3 idea, or they've said Nintendo isn't a real competitor in the console market.

Putting Halo on teh DS will fuel DS sales, which microsft doesn't have to worry about because they don't have a handheld device. At the same time, putting Halo on the DS would let them rake in the doe on a game that they would otherwise no longer be making money off of. People are still buying Halo 2. Halo? Not so much, other than the odd late gamer for the Xbox /PC.

There are two reasons why Microsoft would pull the plug on this project.

1) They really were planning on a handheld. I wouldn't count this out, and it seems likely. Why wouldn't they jump into the handheld market. Don't confuse this with what I said earlier. I said before that microsoft announced something that people thought was a handheld gaming device but wasn't. I'm not saying they aren't working on something they haven't announced yet. However, since they haven';t even announced it yety, they're far too late to make this gen tech. Their first handheld would probably have at least xbox level graphics. I could see a halo remake for this XBP happening, but I don't think it would sell as much as on the DS with its current fanbase, rate of selling, and touch screen features.

2) This could have happened back when the DS was in a slump, and the PSP was pulling ahead in north america. Microsoft may have decided to play the wait and see game. Since it's clear that the DS has pulled far ahead of the PSP worldwide and is widening the gap here in NA, Halo DS should make a comeback soon if this is the case.

I'm not sure but currently as of right now, the DS/DS Lite all together has sold more units worldwide than the PSP.

bumped to say the starry night ad is insanely cool.

i honestly don't care if i get warned.

also, when i said the PSP was ahead in NA, i should have said it was pulling ahead. The PSP sales were rapidly cathcing up to the original DS back in 05, despite the 4 month later release. Then sales slumped, and the DSL came out next year.
