Here we go, the two biggest shooters of the year. Who is winning now
that both are released? Please take into consideration that Halo 3 has
been out for awhile so the overall release hype has pretty much
passed, while Call of Duty 4 just came out yesterday.
My personal preference lies with Call of Duty 4. The overall feel,
gameplay, and look of it just appeals to me alot more than Halo does.
The CoD series just seems to be a reciprocal of the Halo series for
me. Allow me to explain in further detail:
Halo - IGN Average for all 3 games: 9.5 - My rating for all 3 games: 8.5
7.0 - The Halo series couldn't have asked for a better start than they had. A launch title for the original XBox, it was instantly well-received and definitely the game of gossip. Halo 2 rolled around and was well-received simply because it was the sequel to the amazing first game. Halo 3 went even more downhill and ended the series with another cliffhanger (even when fans were promised with series closure). Started off great, and Bungie just seemed to ride the avalanche that the first game started and spat out two sequels to appease the masses.
Call of Duty - IGN Average rating for 3 games : 8.3 - My rating for all 3 games: 8.5 - CoD on the other hand, has started off realtively poorly. The first two games were relatively poor in design and gameplay, and the third was decent at best, simply because the world was sick of WWI and II shooters at this point. CoD 4 is a pinnacle in gaming today, and in my opinion, was the correct way to go. Finally breaking away from WWII, the trip into modern warfare was just what the series needed, and this new jump has all but secured it as my favorite shooter on the 360 so far.
That being said, I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks. If you've played both games, which do you prefer? What do you like/dislike about both and why, and which do you think will outlast the other and why? I'd like to state that all flamers and trollers need not reply. I'd also like to finish that these opinions are just that: an opinion, and reflect my views and choices and not those of IGN's, whatever they may be.
