ok so I've been using the hackless method of running the game. Brawl ex that is, and now I'm trying to add stages. Now supposedly the hacked version has the roster expansion. Does running the "hacked" version mean you have the home brew channel? Is the home brew channel a "soft" mod? If I can somehow manage to run the hacked version I will.

I'm very new to this nodding scene and almost got the character adding part down. (as in my other topic). Now I'm trying to do stages. Can you get a hackless stage mod?

The hacked version requires you to have Homebrew, Riivolution, or GeckoOS, if I recall correctly. I don't believe that they are soft mods, I'm afraid.

well my question is if I install the home brew channel will that be enough to run the hacked version of the game. With it just running off the disc and SD card.

My whole goal is to add characters and stages instead of swapping them out. There's some huge packs I could download but they all have these skins over the existing characters and whatnot. I don't need all that junk they got on there.

In that case, it will.

Yes, it is a softmod. "Softmod" = software only. The Homebrew Channel (HBC) does not require any modifications to the Wii hardware ("modchips"), so it's a softmod. Riivolution and GeckoOS are simply apps loaded via the HBC - again, softmods. The HBC is a prerequisite of running the "hacked" version of Project M, as the "hacked" version of PM is loaded via the HBC instead of the Smash Stack method (loading via the Stage Builder).

So i don't go to stage builder any more? I just load up HBC and project m will load? I just got HBC on my Wii.

Assuming you copied the /apps/ folder from the Project M homebrew package to your SD card, the Project M launcher will appear on the menu when you open the HBC. Load through that instead of the stage builder method.

Thank you got it loaded, but it doesn't seem to show Roy or Mewtwo...... So close. I know i have the right version of Project ex cause all the files for cloud and everything is there, yet none of them show up. Stages are all the same too.

Right, BrawlEx requires the AXNextFrame hooktype, so you'll need to use GeckoOS instead of the PM loader.

  • Install GeckoOS to your SD card (download link, copy the Gecko1931 folder (under /Gecko1931/HBC/) to your apps folder)
  • Load GeckoOS from the Homebrew Channel
  • Go to "Loader Config"
  • Change "Hooktype" to AXNextFrame
  • Save your settings
  • Return to GeckoOS main menu
  • Boot game
