Not a Pawn
Ok, so I'll make this brief. I've noticed quite a bit of confusion when it comes to sorting the characters based upon the games in Smash they've appeared in. Especially with the recent addition of Dr. Mario. So, I've decided to make a table that displays where each character fits.
Smash64 Veterans/Original 12
These characters are notable due to the fact that they've appeared in every alliteration of Smash. Some claim that they're guaranteed to appear in every future title as well.
Melee Veterans
These guys, although they didn't appear in the original, are some of the most memorable due to their existence in a still competitive community. Melee veterans...for the most part, have returned in future Smash games. But there are a few exceptions. Which brings us to our next listing.
The Forgotten Five
In Melee, there were no cuts made- as all the originals returned. However, it was inevitable that space would need to be made to accommodate room for new characters and a larger cast. These were the characters that were cut from Brawl. It's interesting to note that there was data in Brawl for most of these guys. Leftovers...perhaps...? Out of all these characters- Mewtwo was the only one that was not a clone.
Brawl Veterans
Brawl had one of the biggest additions of characters, and for the most part, they were all loved. There were a surprisingly low amount of "clone" additions this time around. But, unfortunately, Brawl also had the most cuts.
The Abandoned Six
The Abandoned Six are among the most controversial subjects of Smash4 due to the possibility of DLC. Its interesting to note that the Ice Climbers are the first Melee veteran to be cut from a game that wasn't Melee. As of now, however, their fate is unknown.
Smash 4 Newcomers/Challengers
These are the new guys to Smash....but that's an obvious statement. Could there be more to come....?
Melee Newcomers/Cut Veterans
There has only been one account for a character being cut and then being added back in a future title. This has caused a ton of debate that there could be more to come when it comes to dlc. But who can say for sure? Dr. Mario came as quite a shock to many.
